It’s time to kick off our first official project in our home for 2021! Honestly, it’s the one I am the most excited about on our House Goals 2021 list, well besides the deck. This powder room needs some color and pattern, as you can see it’s pretty boring right now. It’s located off the kitchen in our back entryway. It’s kind of a weird shape, doesn’t get a lot of natural light and it’s ridiculously hard to photograph.
Now the debate is on, do we wallpaper only halfway up all the way around the room? Beadboard or board and batten would be on the bottom half of the walls in a dark color. Or do I wallpaper the entire wall behind the toilet and do the rest of the walls with half wallpaper or all board and batten/beadboard whatever moulding we decide?
The wallpaper will definitely not be going directly behind the sink as it’s not meant to be in a place with moisture, especially water getting directly on it. Otherwise I would love to wallpaper the entire alcove area by the sink.
One deciding factor for the wall moulding is the sink area. It would be much easier to do board and batten so we wouldn’t have to take the sink apart from the wall. But I think I would really love to carry the beadboard from the ceiling in the back entry and the kitchen island into the powder room. And maybe we will replace this pedestal sink with a bathroom vanity to provide some small storage for this room.
If you follow me on instagram, you might remember this fall I ordered a sample of lemon and bees wallpaper that I really loved. Unfortunately, it was a little more spendy than our budget for this room.
Also, lately I have definitely been drawn to dark and moody powder rooms. After some debate, this is the wallpaper I’ve landed on from Photowall and I can’t wait to get started on this project!!!!
It definitely ties in a lot of the colors in the botanical prints I found a few weeks ago for our main floor.
Along with adding wallpaper and some sort of wall moulding, I plan to for sure change out the faucet to something else.
We will move this faucet to another bathroom in our home as the faucets are very builder grade basic and this is one in the powder room is an upgrade from those.
It feels so good to finally, FINALLY have a direction for this house as far as inspiration, color palette and style of the look we are going for. So it may be that my original modern grandma cottage style is back. And I am loving it!
If you’re looking to try out some wallpaper, a small room like the powder room is a great place to go for it!
