Two lamps for less than $15? Score!

October 19, 2011

I rearranged our family room the other night with some help from my hubs and his muscles. Does anyone else pronounce it muskles because I was thinking that in my head as I was typing this. Anyways, I love how the family room is coming together with the console behind the couch.

I knew it would look fabulous with two lamps but I don’t have two lamps. Well I should say, I don’t have two lamps that would look right on the console.

Monday I set out to find two lamps and I did find some, at Savers. Savers is like Goodwill and I really like it. They have a fabulous shoe selection but I didn’t find anything in my size this time. I did score these two lamps for $3.99 a piece.

To top off these great finds, when I went up to the register to check out, I received an extra 25% off my purchases so I ended up paying 10.24 or something like that for two lamps and a mirror.

I had a plan for my lamps and it included this:

Here they are now after getting a little makeover:

I was being extra cautious with paper towel just in case the paint wasn’t completely dry.  I sometimes get a little  really impatient.   I was loving my “new” lamps and all they needed were some lamp shades.  I hit up Target today and found  two shades for $3.24 a piece!  Another great score from Target!
Here is the new $3.24 lamp shade on the lamp:

So do  you remember these lamp shades from the entryway?  They were only $5 a piece one of my scores at Target.

I thought I’d give those a try on the new lamp as well:

My hubby thinks the one on the left is too big for the lamp but I’m really not so sure. I am thinking if I went with the smaller tannish shade I could always paint it, trim it out with dark ribbon or stencil it.

So what do you think, lamp #1 or lamp  #2?
Let me know what one you would pick!

EDITED:  Ok wow!  Thanks for all the votes and I knew I was right going with #2 as well but just thought I’d see if hubby really was right.  (It happens like twice a year.  Seriously, even he admits to being wrong pretty much all the time.)  I really do love him, especially seeing as he even seemed to care a little bit about the lamp shades.  Here they are, in all their beautiful glory, now residing in our Master Bedroom on the coral nightstands!

Thanks for all your wonderful comments on my console color and lamps!

ANGE!!! You have the best luck in the world! I can't believe you found those shades at Target for so cheap! I've been looking for lamp shades and they are never that cheap, even on clearance! You need to play the lottery today 🙂 My vote is for number 2.

Great job! I love that you spraypainted the lamps. What a difference! Your console is also super gorgeous! I love the color. My vote is #2 also! I love larger, more dramatic shades for lamps. it seems to catch my eye more! 🙂 Both would be beautiful, though! Good luck!

I was surprised by the great price for the shades at Target also. My vote is #2. Love the makeover the lamps got and I love your console table.

The lamps look great with either shade, but I like #2. Apologize to your husband for me. 🙂

I have those exact same shades and am jealous you found them so cheap. I think they look good on your new lamps. This room is looking so fab. The console color is stunning.

First of all, LOL about "muskels"! That is what we call them at our house too! 🙂 And I totally think shade #2 is the way to go. I love that the trim on it ties in so well with the blue of the console. You done good girlie!

I know I am late for this but I do believe #2 ties in better with room. You could leave #1 as an option (blank canvas) for something else/another space where you can add trim or stencil to it. Looks amazing!

You scored big time!! Love both the lamps but I think the smaller shade lends itself to the scale of the lamp better. Amazing finds, just amazing.

So much prettier! Normally I'd go with #1, but with your blue furniture, I'll go with the status quo and say #2 works best. 🙂
