The Pond House

Hey friends! How’s everyone doing? Hanging in there? This is such a weird time and I know we are all sick of talking about the rona so let’s not. But today, I’m popping on for a quick blog post. Anyone else having to fight for the computer in your home lately? I swear the kids need it 24/7 for school stuff lately.

I can’t believe we close on our new home in just three short weeks from today! Before then we need to celebrate two birthdays and a graduate, plus pack up our home of nine years. Not sure I’m ready to say goodbye to our home just yet but hopefully I will process through all of that in the next few weeks.

For Mother’s Day this year my daughter made me the most beautiful painting of our current home. I may have cried when she gave it to me. I will definitely be framing this one and am hoping to convince her to make one of our new home as well.

I’ve affectionately been calling our new home the Pond House, as it has a pond in the backyard. This is a new build but has been used as their model home since the fall. We may have been take advantage of that fact and going up there about once a week just to walk through, take pics, measure for furniture and blinds or whatever else we need to do.

While we are excited for a new home and no oak trim to paint, one bummer is that we did not get to choose anything design wise in this house. So while it’s new and beautiful, there are some things I do not love about it. The biggest being the fireplace and the flooring. We will not be changing out the flooring anytime soon but we do have plans for the fireplace.

Here is my inspiration for the fireplace area. Vertical shiplap and beautiful stone! Plus some sort of built-ins on the sides.

The flooring seems durable in the entryway, kitchen area but I don’t love the color. It’s that muddy gray color that feels dark and kind of bland. There’s not a lot of tone or texture in it. Something I would not have picked out but that’s ok and we will work with it.

The entryway is one of the places I am really excited about! I have loved this pic for a few years now and am hoping we can do some vertical shiplap in this space.

If I had to guess, this might be one of the first projects in the new house! Except for the fireplace and the fence. Ha! But seriously, I am so excited about tackling the entryway.

The kitchen is great, a nice size and white cabinets that I didn’t paint myself. I’m not sure how I feel about the nickel hardware and lighting, it’s not bad. I’m thinking after we’ve been in the house for a while and get a feel for it we can always change stuff out. There are a few projects we have in mind, including creating a darker grout line, painting the island and switching out the faucet.

We also ordered a gas range to replace the electric one. After switching to gas a few years ago in our current home, we both can’t imagine going back to electric.

My husband started a new job a few weeks ago and we are thankful that he will continue to be able to work from home but also head into an office during the week as well. Our new home has an office right when you walk into the home so that will be a nice change for him. Seeing as his office has been a dungeon of a room in our basement and recently, a bedroom upstairs.

The master Bathroom is one of my favorite rooms in the Pond House! Honestly, it’s what sold me on this house over another new build we were considering. I love taking baths and can’t wait to break in the new tub!

I plan to change out the mirrors, sink faucets and light fixtures at some point as they aren’t my style. Again, nothing major just some little changes here and there.

The bedrooms in the Pond House are smaller than our current rooms which I’m excited about. Our current master bedroom is large and honestly I feel like it’s wasted square footage. The vaulted ceiling in our new master bedroom looks like the perfect place to add a beam or two.

We are going to have a king size bed so this room is going to feel cozy and I can’t wait! The bed frame I ordered from Wayfair is in and I can’t wait to set it up! This inspiration photo is giving me all the feels for our bedroom.

The basement is finished and has a walkout which I love having with the dogs and kids. The basement seems super bright compared to our current one.

Looking forward to making this the hangout/tv area with the sectional. Not sure what else we will do with this room but maybe adding our round white table for a game/puzzle/craft area?

Looking forward to seeing how we use our new home and what we will miss from our current home. The Pond House is about 600 sq. ft less than our current home with the same amount of bedrooms. I’m looking forward to a little smaller home and less rooms on the main floor.

Stay tuned as we move in a few short weeks and have a new place to make our home.
