Welcome back! It’s been a hot week and we’ve accomplished nothing. Unless you count driving to all the tile stores to find fireplace stone. We did work on our ceiling a few weeks ago when we knew that our time during this 6 weeks would be short due to kids sports out of town almost every weekend.
My hubby managed to scrape all the popcorn off the ceiling. Which was great!

Then we purchased 1/4 sheets of plywood to cut into strips and put up on the ceiling. I loved the look of the wood planks, it made the room so warm and cozy. But the pattern placement wasn’t great because we assumed it would be painted.

We sat with it for a week or two before we decided for sure about painting.
I didn’t use drop cloths when painting, just to guarantee that the carpet doesn’t stick around. And look, if we don’t remember where we put the couch, the outline in the carpet will help us. Barf. Can’t wait for that carpet to hit the trash.
Next we need to figure out the fireplace so we can then do the beam down the middle and the sides. This room is somewhat large and the fireplace surround really should have some more girth to it than it does. Ideally I would love to move the fireplace forward and then raise it up. We had a quote for moving the fireplace out and up but it was a bit ridiculous so there goes that. When we demo, the hubby is going to see if it would be easy to do ourselves.
Here is some inspiration I’ve been loving!

Once we know what we can or can’t do with the fireplace itself, then we need to decide if we are doing just shiplap, shiplap and stone or shiplap and tile or maybe just straight up wood. Fingers crossed we can get a lot done on Saturday and Sunday of this week.
My list is long and our accomplishments are few.
Scrape Popcorn off the ceiling
Install Shiplap and paint it
Install Beams on ceiling
Demo the Fireplace and pull it out further into the room
Create a Fireplace Surround
Tile or Stone the fireplace
Tear out carpet and tile in front of fireplace
Install new carpet and tile
Install a light fixture in the family room
Figure out where the tv is going
Paint lower cabinets
Install backsplash
Remove upper cabinets
Install floating shelves
Hopefully we can kick it into high gear the next week or so! Head over to the ORC for some amazing inspiration! Check out the other participants and stop by next week for another update.
