Projects and Paint

Happy Monday!  The fall feeling is creeping in the air and we are clinging to the last bits of summer while we can! Next week we move two girls into their dorms. So thankful that their colleges are open and praying they stay that way!

We’ve been working on some fun things around here lately.  Including our first project, vertical shiplap and beadboard.

The back hallway was feeling really long, dark and flat.  I’ve been eyeing up vertical shiplap for three years now and finally we got to do it!

Functionality is something I am figuring out with this home which I know will take a while.  But adding in some hooks in this hallway should help.

While the hallway isn’t finished quite yet, I love how much lighter and brighter it is!  Stay tuned for a more in depth blog post with photos on this project soon.

This weekend we finally sanded down the top of the kitchen table. It’s only been on my to do list for two years.

It had some gray stain I tested out, it needed a good sanding down and top coat. Such a simple project. I am so glad we finally did it! It’s not perfect but it looks a thousand times better. I put a few coats of poly on it and we called it a day. I kind of like the worn patina of it. We are going for that lived in cottage feel. Ha!

As many of you know, new builds are great but flat paint on the walls with kids is a huge pain.  I’ve already repainted the wall going down the stairs to the basement.

The downside of buying a model home is that we did not get to customize the home, including paint colors.  Painting the island green was definitely a fun and quick paint project to customize our home. But I am itching to do more!

The current color on the walls in the main living area is Agreeable Gray.  Because the windows are east facing, we get tons of light and my flooring is a bit on the warmer gray side, the wall color looks much cooler than it is. Especially in the evenings against one of the walls, it’s very cold feeling.  The photo below was taken when it was listed for sale but as you can see, it’s definitely not showing up with any warmth in it.

The photo below is from the internet and I can’t find the source but the wall color is also agreeable gray. Which I love in this photo.

My master bedroom is anew gray which is one down on the color strip with agreeable gray and I love how warm and cozy it looks.

I tried painting anew gray on a wall in the main floor but it again turned out on the cooler side. So I will be searching for some warmer paint colors to cozy up the main floor.

So today this is what I am doing. Searching for a few greige wall colors to try out. My cabinets and trim are Alabaster but as you can see in this photo the cabinets are definitely more creamy, almost yellow compared to the door and trim.

And maybe I shouldn’t paint my walls at all because I am obsessed with my vertical shiplap and want to do the whole house in it.

If you have used a lovely warm greige in your home, I would love to know. Have you been working on any projects in your home? Or maybe you have something on your to do list that you need to just get done. Let me encourage you, do it this week. You will feel so good crossing it off! Happy Monday friends, make it a good one! And if you’re looking for some a good song, go check out this one!
