My Anxiety Story Part 3

March 15, 2012

Read Time:7 Minute, 22 Second

This is the last in a series on My Anxiety, you can read part1 and part 2 if you would like to catch up.

After I was diagnosed with GAD, I ended up meeting with a wonderful social worker named Sue. I loved her, she was a big help to me in learning how to deal with my anxiety. I eventually was able to go into stores by myself and from there I was able to start driving a small amount by myself.  I remember feeling anxious anytime I hit a red stoplight but after a while I desensitized myself to that.  Although I was able to get over my fear of driving around town, I never tried going outside of town again. I wish I would’ve worked more on this as it is still a struggle for me today. My max reach is about 15 minutes away from home by myself or with my kids. Once I drove from our town to a big city about two hours away when the two oldest girls were 4 and 2. Hubby had been in Chicago for work and was going to get dropped off by his boss in the city I was driving to. For most of the way there I just reminded myself that God was with me, He was in the passenger seat and I could just reach over and squeeze His hand for strength.  I had made it almost all the way there when I was hit by a huge panic attack. I pulled into a gas station, took the kids out and went inside. I told the lady behind the counter what was happening in case for some reason I passed out. Thankfully I was meeting a friend at the mall so I called her, thankfully she was able to meet me at the gas station and I followed her  the last 15 minutes of the trip into town. That trip should have been counted as a success in my book because I made it, it was rough but I did drive there.  Instead though I see it as a failure, I didn’t make it all the way. What would I have done if my friend wouldn’t have been able to meet me? I was so worried about hyperventilating to the point of passing out that I didn’t want to drive because I could get in an accident and/or someone could steal my children or I could injure or kill them if I did pass out while driving. After that, I have never attempted to drive anywhere far away by myself again.

When we moved this past summer my husband thought for sure that my anxiety would kick into high gear again, especially driving in an unfamiliar, larger city. I had one anxious moment when I went to pick up a Craigslist find but other than that I am even amazed at how well I’ve done. We live in a city now where there is an actual highway with on and off ramps that runs through town, much like an interstate. I have no problems getting on and off, merging with traffic and driving with 3 to 4 lanes of traffic around me. I would hate to be stuck in traffic though, that would be enough to have me panicking! Thankfully traffic doesn’t get too bad here and I don’t have to be in rush hour because I don’t have a job and our kids take the bus to school.

Besides the driving, another point of major anxiety for me that was quite an awful ordeal was the dentist and my wisdom teeth. For those of you who remember this, bear with me. When I was sixteen I was supposed to get my wisdom teeth out, they were impacted so it was supposed to be the surgical removal of the teeth with anesethia. I remember going to the dentist, getting in the chair, seeing all the tools laid out that looked quite scary and the dentist coming over to my chair. After feeling around in my mouth he said that they were quite impacted and he felt that maybe they would erupt closer to the gum so he wouldn’t have to dig around so much to get them out and I should come back in 6 months to a year. I shot out of that chair and said to myself, I am never getting this done, ever.

Fast forward to 2005, my wisdom teeth are all through the gums and one has a cavity in it. My dentist told me I needed to have my wisdom teeth removed because they would all eventually have cavities. The medical clinic in town is where most everyone went to have their wisdom teeth removed and it was covered by our insurance.  The appointment would be made, I would fast from eating because they were going to put me out and each time I would cancel the morning of after crying, fighting with my husband and having a panic attack. I did not want anesthesia and I was freaked out. This became such a horrible time of shame and embarrassment for me, I did  not like myself, I did not like how I felt, I did not like how my anxiety was ruling my life.. People were constantly telling me things like “Oh, just don’t worry about it, you’ll be fine.”  If people could only understand the irrational fear and how it doesn’t make sense, we know that but it feels so real!

Finally in 2008 I managed to find a dentist who would pull out my wisdom teeth without anesethia and even gave me some meds to take beforehand so I wouldn’t be so anxious. I had two teeth extracted and it was so freeing to do it! After 3 years of dealing with it, I did it! The next month I ended up needing emergency surgery for my ectopic pregnancy so I still had to be put out just for a different reason. I felt like God was telling me, see with victory you can do hard things!

Source: jesustotheworld.tumblr.com via Angela on Pinterest

Well I am sorry to say, I am back into my prison cell as I need to have my other two wisdom teeth removed but I’ve been putting it off for 3 years and have a cavity in my lower wisdom tooth.   Hopefully I will be posting about this soon telling you there was another victory!
One last thing I want to point out is that I have memorized scripture about fear,
prayed over and over for God to help me and done some visual exercises of laying my worries at the cross.  I know that worrying is a sin.  Sometimes we like to judge others and say things like “They aren’t trusting God” or “Anxiety and Depression aren’t real, they are just a result of you not trusting God.”  “Really,  you just need to believe God can heal you” or my favorite, “Sickness is really a sign of sin in your life.”

I love God and I want to find freedom from this disease but that might not be in the cards for me.   Paul talks about the thorn in his side, something that he never comes out to tell us specifically what it was.   Here is the rest of the passage from 2 Corinthians 12.

Three times I pleaded with the Lord to take it away from me.  9 But he said to me,“My grace is sufficient for you, for my power is made perfect in weakness.” Therefore I will boast all the more gladly about my weaknesses, so that Christ’s power may rest on me. 10 That is why, for Christ’s sake, I delight in weaknesses, in insults, in hardships, in persecutions, in difficulties. For when I am weak, then I am strong.

I am also not using this verse as a cop-out for seeking victory over this area of my life.  Because I struggle with anxiety doesn’t mean I don’t love God or want victory over fear.  I do!  Trust me, I do!

So if you know someone who struggles with anxiety or other mental illnesses, please just be there for them, listen to them and even if you don’t understand, let them know you are there to support them.

Thank you for all your kind emails, offers to talk on the phone and loving comments.  You have touched my heart by sharing your own struggles with me and for being so supportive!  I’m planning on updating you all with some progress in this area of my life as I work through this myself and with my daughter E.  God is good, all the time!

Ange, I am so proud of you and the victories you have made over your anxiety! It’s not an easy road and even small steps along the road are huge progress in dealing with GAD. I also think you are exceptionally brave in sharing your story. I know it will resonate with many of your readers. It’s always nice to know that you are not alone!

You should be proud of the victories that you have made and know that you are stronger than you give yourself credit for. You should feel very good about the fact that you are helping so many just by telling your story.

Ange you are so awesome for sharing your journey with anxiety. One, I’m sure it will help those that suffer from the same issues to identify themselves in your story and hopefully not feel alone and seek help in some way. Two, I appreciate reading about your experiences to help me more fully understand anxiety, how irrational it is and how it can dominate your life. Thank you! You are so strong for sharing all of this so openly here!!

Oh friend, I so wish I could just give you a big hug right now! 🙂 In my opinion, sharing your story with all of us is very, very brave and I think you should count it as another victory over fear. You are being vulnerable and using your experience to bless and minister to others…including me! I continue to pray that God will give you just what you need when you need it and I so agree with you that not everything we struggle with will just magically go away if we try harder, pray more, etc. But it is through the power of the Holy Spirit in us, helping us through the trials which allows us to point to Him when we are able to overcome…moment by moment. I truly believe that all of this has contributed to you being the wonderful, caring woman you are and I’m grateful to have you in my life! 🙂
    Love, Vanessa

Thank you for sharing your life with all of us. I will continue to pray for you as you get stronger everyday. I struggle with depression so I understand whole heartily how you feel about giving it all to God. I trust him with all my heart and know he is with me always, but sometimes our physical aliments require medical attention too. Thank you for being so vulnerable, your honesty is incredible!
May God continue to pour his grace on you and strengthen you.

    Love ya friend xo

Cassie Blog Post

Good Morning Primitive & Proper lovers! I’m so excited to be here today sharing on what has become one of my favorite blogs ever. How can you not love Cassie? She has a great sense of humor, loves her children so much and I’m sure is a rock star of a mom, is the sweetest person who is always leaving the kindest comments on the blogs she follows and is so genuine and real! I can’t wait to meet this girl at Haven so she can walk up the stairs with me because I won’t take the elevator. Besides being an amazing person, she also has amazing taste when it comes to painting furniture and I am in love with the gold leaf nightstands she did recently!
Speaking of nightstands, today I wanted to share the evolution of our master bedroom with you. This past summer we moved from a 1937 Colonial style home into a newer two story home in a cookie cutter style neighborhood. My entire home is covered in every shade of beige paint that Sherwin Williams had to offer along with lots and lots of lovely ugly oak trim.
Our bedroom was a brownish purple color that at night reminded me of what perhaps purple baby poop would look like if you smeared it on the walls.

I decided in November that enough was enough and it was time to paint our bedroom, I couldn’t sleep in a room with the purple/beige poop walls any longer.
In the last house we had more of a shabby chic feel going on and I was ready for a change and I’m sure my hubby was ready for a change as well.

When I suggested painting our bedroom navy blue he was so excited, I thought maybe we had won the lottery.  My color palette thoughts for the room were navy, gold and coral, with some geometric pattern maybe for the curtains and pillows.
We decided to find new furniture for our bedroom and after searching Craigslist, I found a brass head board and foot board for $40, along with two nightstands for $35.

The color on the wall is Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore and we both love it.  It doesn’t look so hot with the oak trim but after I painted all the trim it was much much better. The paint and trim were done in November, along with painting some wide stripes in our closet and after that the bedroom project went on a bit of a hiatus.

In October Cutting Edge stencils wanted to send me a free stencil but I had a hard time deciding on which one and where I wanted to use it.  Finally in December I ordered a stencil.  Usually I like to play it safe but this time I went out on a limb and picked something that made me a bit nervous.  I’m so glad I took the chance and went bold.

After picking up some pillows from Target and TJ Maxx, I knew the nightstands needed to be painted.  The hubby wasn’t too keen on his wood nightstands getting painted but I convinced him they would look much better if we did.  There were a few failed color attempts but finally I hit it out of the park with Rhubarb by Benjamin Moore and some Gold Leaf Rub n Buff for the hardware.

Now I just need to finish up the other half of the room where our free Craigslist dresser is sitting.  I am going to do a gallery wall of some sort, just need to be patient and wait to collect the right things.

I just love how our bedroom has come along and I’ve learned to take my time and let the room talk to me.   Here is a before and after, one more time!

Usually I try to rush and finish it, buying things I don’t love just to make the room “complete.”   I have found most of the items for our bedroom through Craigslist, Target Clearance or thrifting and usually some paint makes it perfect!  Thank you Cassie for letting me share the progress of our master bedroom.

My Christmas Mantel 2011

December 8, 2011

Read Time:2 Minute, 0 Second

In case you missed it, I posted my mantel yesterday over at Before Meets After for the 12 Crafty Days of Christmas.  I am reposting it here because I’d really like to have a “copy” of it on my blog.

I have four children so decorating for Christmas is really fun at our home. I love the kids ornaments from pre-school and younger grade school years that are made with paper, glitter and popsicle sticks hanging on my tree.  Our tree is not themed, it’s just fun and colorful!

On a side note, apparently it is also a really yummy tree as the goldendoodle has chewed through two sets of lights now and also eaten a few ornaments.  The lights were not plugged in, so no goldendoodles were harmed with a Christmas tree, yet.  Next time it might be me or it might be the electrical shock she should worry about.  I tried the bitter apple spray on the cord but that didn’t deter her.  Anyone have any advice for me?  I’d appreciate it!

Decorating the mantel proved to be a bit tricky as we have our tv above it and with the tv comes those annoying cords!  I try my best to cover them up when I can.

My mom knit our stockings with our names on them and I love hanging them on our fireplace every year. I use command hooks to hang our stockings because I’m too cheap to buy stocking holders and I am also afraid they will fall off and hit someone in the eye.

I printed out these scripture trees for free and framed them in some frames I purchased out of the dollar section at Target last year. A couple ornaments in the garland, the glittery reindeer from the dollar section at Target as well and we’re set.

I’m hoping next  year to do something different with the mantel but this year, it was all about easy.  I think it’s fun to decorate the mantel and hang our stocking on it at Christmas.  Eventually I hope to have built ins on either side of the fireplace and the mantel will be a little chunkier all around but for now, five months after moving in, I think it not being oak anymore is progress enough this year!

The Angel Tree Foundation provides gifts for children whose parents are incarcerated. As a mother myself, I found the statistic that 75% of all women in prison are mothers. I can’t imagine those poor children at Christmas without a mom, without Christmas gifts and without hope.

THE FACTS

Why we need your help today!

> One in three prisoners is a parent.
> About 75% of women in prison are mothers.
> 1 in every 43 children has a parent in prison.
> More than 1.7 million children will spend Christmas separated from their mom or dad.

5 Favorite Pins Guest Post at C & O

November 20, 2011

0 0
Read Time:3 Minute, 13 Second

Hello Clementine & Olive readers!  I’m so excited to be here today sharing with you my five favorite pins.  If for some reason you haven’t discovered Pinterest yet, WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?  If you are tired of facebook and looking for a new addiction, look no further!   Pinterest is wonderful and addicting!
I just want to say, when someone asks you to share your five favorite pins right now, you think to yourself, “Oh, that’s easy.”  Well it’s not!   I had such a hard time choosing only five.  What to share, recipes, rooms, clothes, DIY stuff, Christmas, funny stuff?  So here they are, my five favorite pins right now!

I love the handles on the drawers and the gold trim.  Gold and black is a classic look.  The glasses on top of the books add just the perfect touch to make it feel less staged and more homey.

I love love love the geometric stencil on the back wall in a bold color.   The coral piping on the chair is a great touch to just bring in a small amount of bright color into the space.  The gold against the navy wall is great. I think the picture for me is a perfect example of contrasting yet complimentary colors and textures.  It just works well together and a bonus, it’s an inspiration pin for my master bedroom.

I LOVE stripes, love them!  This rug, the table, the books, I want to grab a book, pull the two chairs closer to each other so I can sit in one and rest my feet in the other and read all day.  Plus I love the light fixture too.  The walls are dark but it doesn’t feel dark at all with the white curtains, white bookcases and yummy chunky crown molding!  I’m hoping there is a fireplace across the room that you can’t see because that would make this perfect!

I saw this pin and immediately loved it!  Our children have been asking for a play kitchen and this is the perfect answer!  We made a play kitchen last year out of items we had in our home and they loved it.  When we moved this summer we had to leave our play kitchen behind, we literally had no room for it.  Now we can have fun making something like this together as a family and then we get to play with it when we’re done.  That’s what I call a win-win!  Now I just need to find a free entertainment center on Craigslist!
Now I know that pinterest is great for recipes, home stuff, diy, clothing, craft projects, photography and much more.  One of my favorite things about Pinterest is some of the crazy and funny things people pin.  I have an entire board of stuff that makes me laugh.  The other night, it was past midnight for sure, the hubs and I were sitting on the couch and I was browsing pinterest.  I came across this picture and it was so funny!  We couldn’t stop laughing, in fact the hubby might have even been crying a bit from laughing so hard.  I’m sure it wont be as funny for you as it is for me but it’s one of my favorites and so I’m sharing it.

Who puts a diaper on their cat’s head?  Seriously!  Too funny!
Thank you Erin for having me here today to share my favorite pins, I had fun!  If you aren’t following Erin on Pinterest yet, you should, she pins some great stuff!

Guest Post Hyphen Interiors

November 16, 2011

Read Time:3 Minute, 33 Second

Hello Hyphen readers, I am so glad to be here today, helping Kristy out while she’s packing up and moving! What an exciting time for her and her husband. I know all too well how the packing and searching for a new home can go as our family just moved across state lines this past June.
One of the first projects I had in mind for our new home was turning our front entryway closet into a cloffice.  If you don’t know what a cloffice is, it’s a closet office.   I was really  missing our cloffice from the last house and was tired of my counters having piles of papers on them. The hubby wasn’t really on board with the idea because he was concerned about guest’s not having a place to hang their coats. While browsing pinterest one day, I found the solution to our coat dilemma, a shelf with hooks that my hubby could build for me!

Source: remodelingguy.net via Ange@thebloominghydrangea on Pinterest

While the cloffice was the first project I wanted to start on, really the entryway needed to be finished first. I started by painting the back of the door black so that the fingerprints from our children and also paw prints from our dogs would be less visible.

Next we removed the bi-fold doors from the closet and the wire shelving from inside along with our vacuums and other miscellaneous stuff we had  hidden stored in there. We decided to start painting all our trim white and will also start replacing all the doors with six panel hollow core doors.

We had a place for guests to hang their coats but what to do with all the gear like purses, hats, gloves and scarves?  I grabbed a bookshelf that was in my daughter’s bedroom, spray painted it black and then purchased two baskets from Hobby Lobby for storage for the guests.  I also had a white mirror that I spray painted gold and hung above the bookshelf so you can check for stuff between your teeth before answering the door.  You never know who might come knocking.

We thought perhaps a white banister and railing might not be the best idea with four children in the house so we opted for a black banister and hand railings.  I really like how it ties together with the door.

I just love the shelf and coat hooks, so simple yet adds a nice touch to a boring hallway.  Above the shelf I wanted to add some family photos in black frames.  My friend Monica from Read My Walls not only did our family photo shoot but she also sells these beautiful frames for the pictures.  They come in a variety of sizes, shapes and colors, perfect for any decor and also make a great gift!  They were the perfect touch and I can’t wait to add a few more pictures to the grouping and maybe even find something to cover up the security system!  If you have any ideas for that, send them my way!

This wall is so hard to photograph because it’s in a hallway and I don’t feel like I can do the shelf or the frames justice.  My camera has seen better days, I’m hoping Santa is nice to me this year and brings me something that starts with a C and ends with an A.
For the finishing touch we purchased a gray area rug from Kohls.  I liked the rug and hopefully it won’t show as much dirt as a lighter color rug would.  The rug is Goldendoodle tested, mother approved!

Here are a few final shots next to each other.  Just pretend the green tape and oak trim aren’t showing in the photo of the stairs, k?  Great!

Thank you all for coming into the entry of my home and letting me share one of the quickest and easiest makeovers we’ve done!  Always make a good first impression, even when it’s entering your home!  Thanks for having me today Kristy, it was an honor to be here!

Guest Posting at White Lacquer Today

November 11, 2011

Read Time:3 Minute, 45 Second

Good Morning Peeps! I am so excited to be guest posting over here with one of my awesome Blogging Friends or as we call ourselves BBFF, Patience, who blogs at White Lacquer! Isn’t she the best?  I just love her bar cart she found the other day at Goodwill and am hoping one day she finds one for me as well.  Shipping might be a little spend but it will be worth it!

Today I’m going to share with you a few things that I love and some things I have on my want list!

To start things off, I’m going to be a bit pracitcal because I am a mom.  I really want a pretty mudroom that also hides the items of four kids. I am so tired of shoes, hats and mittens being scattered all over the mudroom floor. I am hoping to make something like this soon, as in before my kids graduate high school!

So maybe that was a little too practical, right? All practicality and reasoning aside, I want this, for reals.  In fact, I want this real bad.  Maybe Santa will bring me a nice shiny new camera for Christmas, one can hope right!

Ok, this is a little silly but I really would love to have an owl. Even better how about an owl with glasses?

Any DIYer that loves to paint things, can not live without their trusty spray paint! Even better than that, I can’t spray without my sprayer handle. It is a must have for me and I love it!  Just try it and see how your finger doesn’t feel bruised after pressing on spray paint triggers for hours at a time.

I already own three pairs of boots but I think these might make my collection complete, love these!  In fact, I pinned them twice.

I love Salted Caramel, is anyone else obsessed with this as well?  Just look at this goodness mixed with chocolate,  is there anything better?

Source: bloomingonbainbridge.blogspot.com via Ange@thebloominghydrangea on Pinterest

or how about this, hello gorgeous!  Get in my belly! My favorite, frosting mixed with caramel and salt!  We have a winner!

I just had to wipe drool off my keyboard so I could finish this post. If you want to make me some of that yummy goodness and send it to me, I’ll email you my address. Seriously. Because if  you happen to look at the directions, it takes time to make these and I don’t know if I have that amount of time right now.  I need to finish painting all the oak trim in my house first.

Finally, I can’t make it through the day without my phone. I joined the world of smart phones in September and now I don’t know how I lived without it. I use the Google Reader app on my phone so I can read blogs while waiting at an appointment, in the bathroom, yes it’s true or even during a really boring meeting. Shhh, don’t tell. I use the internet to look up coupons for stores like The Childrens Place, Joann Fabrics and American Eagle along with that nifty bar code scanner app to help me find the best deal and see the reviews of products before I buy.   I also love the Good Reads app for when I am at the library looking for books to read and I cant remember the author or book name. Of course I also have the Craigslist app which has come in handy many a times. This phone is awesome and I’m so glad it’s mine!

I really wanted to add boobs to the things I want list but that would’ve been kind of weird and I don’t have the money to get some.  I also wouldn’t voluntarily put myself through an unnecessary surgery cause I’m a big chicken. Was that TMI?

Thanks for letting me share some randomness with you all today.  It was great fun visiting and I hope you’ll stop over and say hi!

Good Morning Our Blue Front Door readers! I’m so honored to be here with my good friend Andrea sharing on her blog!  The wonderful thing about blogs is that you get to be friends with people you might never have met because they live 5 states away.  Isn’t Andrea great?  I love when we get a chance to chat on the phone and hopefully one day soon, we’ll meet in person!

Today Andrea wanted me to share our Powder Room that we just did for less than $100.
When I’m not laying around the park with my hubby while he sings me love songs while playing his guitar,

you can find me in my home painting the oak trim white and redoing pretty much every room in our home. We just moved in the end of June but I’ve managed to get a few small rooms done! One of my favorite rooms that I just finished up was our Powder Room.
Maybe you recognize this bathroom? I think almost every home built since 2000 has a room that looks like this, the builder grade oak vanity, toilet and mirror.  Nothing wrong with this room, it’s just kind of vanilla.

One day the inspiration struck and after convincing the hubby that zebra is cool and we could do the lattice board and batten like in the bub’s room, we ended up with a WOW factor for less than $100!
(My apologies, some of these pictures are a little rough.  It’s hard to photograph a 5×5 room with no natural light).

Here is the total for the finished project :
$10 for the stencil with a 40% off coupon at Hobby Lobby
$9 for some black paint in sample sizes from Menards
$4 for a can of gold spray paint from Menards
$3 for a new hand towel from Target
$40 for the board and batten
Grand Total = $66

I used some white paint I found in the basement for the walls in this room.  I also had leftover black paint from a previous project that I used to paint the vanity.  I spray painted the picture frames which I already had and used the flower pictures that were originally in our previous dining room.   The shelf, flowers, vase and letter N were all things I had in storage or I stole them from other rooms in our home.

I hope you enjoyed and maybe were even inspired by the before and after of my Powder Room.   You can stop over at my blog The Blooming Hydrangea and say hi, I love meeting new people and blogs!
Thank you Andrea for having me today, it’s an honor!

Life & Love: Moving

May 18, 2011

0 0
Read Time:7 Minute, 33 Second

The month of December will mark six months since we moved.  I have wanted to blog about our move yet it never seems to be the right time.  I’ve decided that six months is long enough and pretty soon I’ll forget the details and emotions of our experience.  When I think of how fast it all fell together and how God had his hand on this thing, I want to record all of it.  For me, this blog is like a journal and I love looking back and reading about things that I forgot about.

My hubby and I both grew up in a small town in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  We met the summer before our senior year of High School through mutual friends.  We were engaged the July after graduating High School and married 3 years later.  When my awesomely smarty pants of a hubby graduated from college, we already had a job lined up.  We never put much thought into where we would live, we talked about Colorado but never really looked into it much.  We took the first job he interviewed for and that was that.  We ended up in a small mid-western town, population around 20,000.  It was a very family friendly town and quite a shock for me, coming from a college town.
We decided to try and leave after his two year contract was up.  We found a job in a bigger town of about 150,000 with a company that was offering great stock options and a good salary.  We accepted the job but hadn’t told his current employer he was leaving.  After spending a few weekends looking for a place to rent that would accept two dogs, we still had no where to live.  How hard can it be to find somewhere to rent in a city of 150,00?  During that time the company’s stock prices dropped to half of what they were a few weeks earlier.  They told us they split the stock and no worries.  During this time we also find out I’m pregnant.  After the stocks dropped again, we and still nowhere to live and something just not feeling right, we stayed put and didn’t move.  Two years later when I’m pregnant with daughter #2, we see a news report about a big telecommunications company going bankrupt.  What do you know, it’s the company hubby almost worked for two years earlier.  Thank you Lord!
We eventually bought our first house and then sold that and moved into a house we built.  After living there for almost two years and realizing we need to sell our house we wonder if maybe we should move.  My hubby applies for jobs in few different cities but comes up with nothing.
I have been feeling restless for at least a good year maybe longer.  This happens every few months, I get restless, I want to move to another city or better yet state.  I like change and I also know that when I am done with something, I am done.  My poor hubby says he hopes I am never done with him.  Trust me, I don’t think that’s possible, I love that guy so much!  I do think I had been done with our town for a while.  It wasn’t a bad place by any means, in fact it’s a great small midwestern town.  We had great neighbors, great schools, a great church, lots of friends and a great job.  I can only describe it this way, it felt like a shirt that was too tight, I felt restricted, like I needed room to grow and I hope that doesn’t sound snotty or like I thought I was too good for this town.  I just knew I was ready to move on and stretch myself.
Maybe that’s why I worked on all those rooms in the house this past winter and spring, I was just feeling restless.  In April 2011 I told the hubs we needed to decide if we were going to stay where we were or try moving again because with our oldest daughter about to enter fifth grade, time was running short on moving away without it becoming a serious issue with the children.  I really didn’t want to die having only lived in the UP of Michigan and a small midwest town.  Even if it was a horrible experience and we hated it, at least we did it.  Maybe part of it was wanderlust, maybe it was time for a change, maybe I wanted to be further away from family or a combination of all of these things.

We have tried t o move away a few times but it never seems to work out. Once we had a job lined up and we were ready to go but oddly enough we couldn’t find a place to rent in a city of 150,000 people. Then we found out we were pregnant, the stock options they were offering were significantly reduced and things just felt off so we stayed put. Two years after we didn’t take the job, we had one daughter and another on the way. On the news one night we listened to a report about a giant company declaring bankruptcy and going belly up. It was the company where the job was in the city that we couldn’t find anywhere to rent. Some might call this a coincidence or luck, we call it God.

The problem (if you can call it that) is that we have been blessed with my hubby’s great job, an awesome job actually with awesome benefits.  That has always been the trouble with moving, leaving behind the great pay and benefits and venturing into a bad economy and being the new guy who gets let go first if things head south with the company. The hubs likes his job, he likes the people he works with and he didn’t really want a new job but we wanted to live somewhere else.  We talked it over and we decided he should ask if it would be possible for him to work from home and telecommute.

In case you don’t know this already, I am the take charge, go getter kind of girl.  It’s time to get this house on the market!!!  So, I called a realtor to come out and look at our house, tell us what to fix up, take care of, paint, etc. She helped us out, met with us again, told us what she wanted to list our house for and set up another appt. to sign the papers with her in a few weeks. She mentioned that she might have a possible buyer who wanted to live in our area so she would bring him through first when our house was ready. Great!
Hubs had the approval from work so I finally announced on fb we were moving. A friend calls but I missed the call. She leaves a message, she would like to give our phone number to her neighbor who needs a house in our area. He calls the next morning, we chat, I tell him we are finishing up a few projects but he wants to come look anyways. I ask him if he’s working with a realtor, he says he’s not. We have the showing, he likes it. He calls back and wants to bring his daughters through the house and maybe his parents. Sure. He comes back twice for a total of three times in a week.  During the first showing we realize that he’s the same guy our realtor wanted to bring through, Coincidence?
Sunday night while we are having our small group at our house I mention that we are waiting for the guy to call and set up a time to come and make an offer on our house. As soon as the words are out of my mouth my phone rings, it’s him. Coincidence?
Monday night we worked out the details and just like that, without a sign in the yard our house was sold. We can still hardly believe how fast everything has happened!  The new house is great and we are loving the neighborhood, the house, the city, even our kids like it here!  And yesterday while I was doing some landscaping, I found a dried hydrangea flower sitting in the grass by the landscaping bricks.  I looked around and we don’t have hydrangeas in our yard and I don’t see any at the neighbors’ houses either.  My hubby mowed the lawn last week so I know it wasn’t there the other day.  I considered it another gift from God. which you can read more about here.

Two New Recipes for fall and they are both desserts!

October 13, 2010

Read Time:45 Second

In case you don’t know this about me, I will share it here. I hate pumpkin food, such as muffins, cake, donuts, cookies, pie, bars and whatever else people make with pumpkin, all I can say is “yuck.”  I am also allergic to apples so I don’t do apple crisp, apple cider, apple pie, apple whatever else there is.   So, when I think of fall, I don’t envision all the apple and pumpkin food I can make. Nope, I’m out for the chocolate, caramel, caramel, maybe more caramel, perhaps some molasses and maybe even some cinnamon! Here are two recipes I am going to try this month and I’m on the lookout for some recipes that have caramel in them so if you have one, I’d love for you to link it in the comment section below.
