ORC Week 4 Master Bathroom Lighting & Hardware

October 29, 2015

Read Time:2 Minute, 53 Second

This week I don’t have much progress so let’s talk about bathroom hardware and lighting.  I’ve been searching the internet for weeks trying to find cheap hardware that was also brass and didn’t look like it was from my grandma’s kitchen.  I had my heart set on this one from myknobs.com and also I think it’s available online through Lowes as well for about $11 each.

I did debate early on spray painting similar hardware gold but wasn’t sure how it would hold up.  Well thanks to Melissa from the Polished Habitat she blogged about her spray painted hardware from last fall’s ORC so I decided to take a chance and save some money on hardware.  I purchased these Stainless Steel brass pulls from Home Depot for a total of $45 for 6 pulls and this can of gold spray paint from walmart which has plenty left in it for other projects!  It’s the only gold spray paint I like to use and I can only find it at wal-mart.

So I gave a little sneeky peaky on my instagram (you may want to follow me to see more) earlier this week because it was pretty much perfection with the vanity cabinet!  And do you see part of the faucet?!?

Now moving onto lighting.  This is the current lighting in our bathroom, it’s from Lowes and we purchased it maybe two years ago.

I don’t mind the light and it worked well with the last mirror but I would prefer a chrome light fixture to match the faucet.  Also since changing out the mirror, I feel like I need something a little smaller and pointing up instead of down.  My only worry is that three lights won’t be bright enough for the bathroom but maybe we just use brighter light bulbs?

I’ve been on what feels like every lighting site on the internet looking for cheap but nice lighting.  Cheap in my case is $125 or less, this is a budget reno after all.  Here is some lighting I have considered, my first choice is out of the budgeted range but I included it anyways because it’s a beautiful choices and probably what someone else would consider reasonable to pay for lighting.

  1.  Lowes – Progress Lighting 3 Light Fortune
  2. Wayfair – Carlisle by Vaxel
  3. Restoration Hardware – Lugarno
  4. Amazon – Eurofase Dorado
  5. ATG Stores – Jeremiah Lighting
  6. Lighting Direct – Somerville
  7. Home Depot – Progress Madison Collection
  8. Home Depot – Millenium Collection
  9. Amazon – Nuvo Soho

I need to decide on lighting soon in case I need to have it shipped to me.  The first one is my favorite, anyone have that light just laying around and you want to sell it to me for $50?  Better yet, maybe Lowes wants to send it to me for free?  HA!  A girl can dream, right?

Here’s a little mockup with my favorite light, the shades look funky because it didn’t come through very well so I edited it myself.

And here’s a few mockups of the lights I really like.  I’d love your thoughts, so feel free to vote!

So here’s where we are going into week 5, Yikes!  Time to get our butts in gear and make some decisions!  I still haven’t figured out a shower curtain or artwork yet.

While I get busy shopping, make sure you head over to Linda’s blog at Calling it Home and check out what kind of progress everyone else has made this week!

Love the hardware. I was originally going with number 4, but after I saw the mock-up I think number 1 is your best bet. Looks great!

Julia, thank you for the vote! That’s my husband’s favorite so he is hoping it wins. Lol. I hate making these decisions when I can’t see the lighting in person, I am not a good online shopper.

You can’t go wrong with any of them Ange – they are all gorgeous choices! Love the mirror and your gold hardware too!

I like the one you picked. The silver on the shade is awesome. I hear you on the price tag. I’m in that same boat except I’m purchasing two. I ordered some but am now rethinking it. Ugh. I love how your bathroom is so tidy during all of this! Mine is a total wreck! LOL

Nancy, I should have taken a photo of our bedroom a few days ago, it was a disaster! We spent a few hours picking up the other night and cleaning. I’m sure we’ll be making a mess again soon! Lol

The brass pulls look so great! I vote for #1, even though it’s not a budget light:)

Spray painting hardware is always a little scary for me! Now I love it! You can achieve just the look you are searching for at a fraction of the price! My vote is for #1! So fun watching your bathroom progress!

Of the mock-ups I like #2. The size seems to match up better with the mirror and I think it’s a little less modern. But, honestly, they are all really nice!!

I’ve been thinking about spray painting the hardware I bought for my kitchen project as well – do you need to put a protective coat or anything over the spray paint? For some reason I have a fear of the paint coming off on my hands. I love all your light options – my favourites are #4 & #1.

The hardware turned out AMAZING! It looks perfect! As for lighting. I don’t have any strong preference (so helpful, I know). I think they’ll all work well.
