After painting the trim and the stripes in the closet I lost the vision for the master bedroom. It’s been just kind of blah but this past weekend Craigslist came through and now the vision is back!
Can you believe I scored this dresser, for free? That’s right peeps, someone didn’t want this anymore and I found it at 2am so I emailed them. They sent out a blanket email at 7 am to all 35 people that emailed them regarding the dresser. I woke up at 8:30, read the email, called them and said, I’ll be right there! I couldn’t believe it was still available. My hubby, who loves his sleep, was so awesome to get up and go with me to get the dresser. I knew that he’d rather sleep than load up a dresser but he loves me more than sleep.
I have been looking for a throw to add to the end of the bed and managed to scoop up a chunky chenille throw on Saturday at Target for $20. Even if it doesn’t stay there long term, I love the blanket and I can always use it elsewhere in our home. I decided the lamps from the family room look really good in our bedroom so I stole them from the console but now that I look at the picture, maybe some thicker, girthier lamps would be better. And yes, girthier is a word I just made up. Now I will have to head back to Savers or Goodwill and find new lamps to spray paint for the family room or my bedroom.
It’s impossible to take pictures with kids or dogs in them. Really. I also added my federal mirror above the bed, that’s the start of the gallery wall. Maybe. After putting the dresser at the end of the bed we no longer needed the dresser in the closet. I borrowed the desk from my daughter’s room and I might just keep it. I’ll be finding her a new desk, don’t worry.
The only thing is now I have an empty wall in our bedroom that I have no idea what I should do with. It’s almost too small for furniture like chairs and I don’t really want to add another dresser. I could move the desk/vanity out there but then the closet is really empty looking. We did move the dresser at the end of our bed over to that wall but it was too small for the big wall. The bed was moved to that wall as well but I didn’t like it.
Here is the wall with the dresser:
One of the reasons the dresser worked well at the end of our bed is that the footboard does not attach to our frame. We need to buy a new frame for it to attach to. So now here’s a photo without the footboard:
Next up, pillows, a bed skirt and curtains. I’m thinking of dong white curtains with a stencil/pattern on them. Or maybe just plain gray velvet ones? I’m still not clear on my vision for this room but it is better than what it looked like a few months ago.
Perhaps I should lighten up the room by doing one wall with a stencil or stripes? Or will that be too much? I think I’ve thought so long and hard on this that I can’t think straight anymore.
I’d love to hear your thoughts, ideas, suggestions, etc. Anyone else having a master bedroom identity crisis?

I would probably move the dresser to the wall that you have nothing on…put it at the end to cover the switches…I think that would help showcase you bed better. I would then stencil the wall your bed is on. The room has great bones…

I vote move the dresser as well. Then you could put a mirror to top of it….or move the gallery wall to that side. The possibilities are endless..but that's the problem, right? 😛

I like the idea of hiding the switches with the dresser to. Great score. Free is the best!!

I like the dresser on the wall with a big chunky mirror or painting. I vote a stencil on the back wall in silvery design or white or gray. Looking up!

This is looking great, what a SCORE on the dresser girl! While I like it at the end of the bed, keep it on the wall for now. Yes, big overscale mirror on the wall and stencil the wall behind the bed. Something graphic and awesome, I'm sure. Love it!

I love seeing your room come together! Especially in 'real time' and not an overnight thing that makes the task seem so daunting.
Love the dresser! What a great score. I really like those lamps too. I like the dresser on the wall with a large mirror above, maybe find a bench for the foot of your bed.
I would do a stenciled/striped wall and curtains. But that's what I have in mind for my master once I can start.

Come you find me some FREE stuff on Craigslist! Are you on there all of the time?
The master bedroom is coming along, can't wait to see your bedding and what you decide. I would love for you to bring the stripes in or like someone else said maybe paint your curtains in the same pattern. We all know you love to paint, hehe 🙂 Keep it coming pretty lady

That is a wonderful dresser and for free! WOW, you scored, so happy to see that happen! I can identify with being confused with what direction a room needs to go…It happens to me all the time!

I can't keep up! I like the bed better with the footboard-that's all I can commit to at this point 🙂 The dresser is fabulous, but you probably have it in the dining room by now 😀
Sometimes the lampshades look like they have trim. Sometimes they don't?? Or is it a shadow? I'm so confused. Your rooms always look great- you'll figure it out.
