Kids Nautical Bathroom Reveal – ORC Link Participant

May 8, 2014

ORClinkingparticipantCIH

Week 6 is here!  I made it and the kids bathroom is done!  I had the hardest time photographing this room, it’s long and narrow with no natural light so excuse my photography skills, they are not the best.  For less than $200 I managed to update the kids bathroom.

Just a quick refresher for you, here is the before, an outrageous orange, oak and octopus kids bathroom.

This room was not getting new flooring or counter tops, just trying to refresh it on the cheap.  I wanted a coastal beachy feel.  I decided against the traditional navy, red, gold and white color scheme in favor of aqua, gray, green and orange.

The Board and Batten helped to lighten up the room, along with the minty aqua paint color I found in the oops section at Menards for $4.  I am missing a hook for the towels near the shower curtain,  Hobby Lobby only had 3 when I went but I really loved them the best so I will be patient and wait for more.

After the bead board fiasco, I’m glad we went with the board and batten.  It was easy to do and looks great!

The vanity is painted Desert Twilight which is also the color of my lower kitchen cabinets, it is a greenish gray.   The seahorse knobs are from Hobby Lobby.  They were also out of these so I used two star knobs until the sea horses are back in stock.

You can see where I am missing the towel hook on the left, hopefully it will be back in stock soon!

I wanted to make a Nautical Rope Shelf like the ones found in Pottery Barn.  I will share how I weathered the board in a separate blog post soon, it was super easy and cheap, all done with stuff I already had on hand.

A little before and after for you!

Special shout out to my husband who patiently put up bead board only to have to take it down and put it up in the mudroom.  Then he had to help install the board and batten in place of the bead board.  He does love helping with projects so he wasn’t too irritated with me.

And a big, huge, thank you to Linda from Calling it Home who puts together this challenge twice a year!  It was wonderful to link up and get motivated to finish this room.

Wow – a huge difference in the before and after! Love how you’ve transformed it into a calming space while still keeping lots of color. And I’m loving your little DIY shelf – how creative! The Hobby Lobby hooks are great – FYI they will order them into the store for you if you don’t want to wait around until they restock!

I love your colour scheme. So fun. That shower curtain sure does a great job of pulling everything together! The prints are great–I’ll have to check those out. My Mom has a vanity just like that–with the yellow built in sink and everything–so it is encouraging to see it looking so good. Well done!
