When we purchased our current home, I immediately created a mood board and also came up with a name for the vibe/aesthetic I was wanting to create in our home. I distinctly remember being in the pillow aisle at target with my oldest daughter and I found this bright colorful floral pillow. Immediately I loved it, and I said I wanted a grandma cottage look but modern. Modern Grandma Cottage Style was my design inspo born right there at Target in the pillow aisle, April of 2020.
I had planned to blog about it but I don’t think I ever did do that. Oh well, here we are three years later talking about it. To be honest, I’m not even sure what Modern Grandma Cottage Style is except I love blue, green and coral colors, florals, stripes, brass, plants, vintage looking decor, stone, wood, white and things that make you feel like you are in a cozy but still bright and airy cabin by the lake. Your cool and fun grandma lives there and she’s quirky, funny and full of energy. Her home is fun but not funky, colorful but not too much because she still loves neutrals too and the decor is nostalgic/vintage but doesn’t smell weird or look like it needs to hit a dumpster. Since I’ve been working most of this year and also helped plan a wedding and a graduation, I haven’t had much time to do projects or even putter around in my home. I have not purchased one new pillow or probably even a piece of decor. The master bedroom did get painted but that is it. There’s nothing wrong with any of this but I can tell that I miss being creative and creating in my home. With big changes coming to our home with our daughter and son-in-law and soon to be baby moving into the basement for a bit. I am also quitting my job so I can be a stay at home mimi. Plus sending our third daughter off to start her first year of college, it’s time to get some shiz done.
For the last few months of this year, I have a few things I’d love to accomplish in my home. Putting it on “paper” aka my blog seems to make it more legit and helps me follow through. I did this last year with the family photo walls and the landscaping in the backyard. And honestly, it was a big success for me. Here it is, for the last part of 2023 these are some home goals I have.
Doing something with the entryway walls. Still can’t decide three years later. Maybe just some shiplap or picture frame moulding, maybe wallpaper, maybe both? I don’t know.
Paint the beadboard in the laundry room. Simple but something I’ve wanted to do for a while.
Paint the mudroom and mudroom closet
Work on the master bedroom – I posted the mood board last November. Would love to do flooring, the ceiling, some moulding and curtains. I doubt all this will get done but hey, we’re dreaming here!
Also plan on painting the basement bedroom and bathroom which are still the builder paint color.
Now it’s 2024 and I can honestly say I have done nothing on here except hang a piece of art over our sofa. Things not on the list that I’ve done include painting the back entry and front room. We also did finally finish up our patio and landscaping which was on the 2022 list. But, we have had quite a lot going on the past two years so cutting myself some slack. Now that the basement is empty again, it’s time to start kicking butt on our house goals!
Adding to the list:
New flooring on the main floor and our bedroom
Redoing the Pantry Shelving, paint and making it more functional
So here’s to finishing up the 2023/2024 house goals list!
