Guest Blogger: Rene from Cottage and Vine

June 29, 2011

Good Morning Friends!  It’s time for another guest blogger and today it’s Rene from Cottage and Vine!  If you haven’t met Rene, you are in for a real treat!  I love her blog and she is posting one of my favorite rooms in her home the dining room.  Take it away, Rene!

Hello to all of Ange’s followers and thanks for inviting me over today Ange!  I am Rene from the blog Cottage and Vine.  Ange asked me to share one of my recent projects with you so I thought that I would share my dining room.

Like many of the rooms in our home, it was filled with hand me downs and had become too dark for our taste.

The first plan was to get rid of the matchy matchy dining room table and chairs.  An eclectic mixture makes a room sing in my opinion, so the plan was to bring a table and contrasting chairs.  The old table and chairs sold within a week through a free listing in our local news paper and I was in business.

I found the above chairs in one of my favorite consignment stores in town and began giving them a makeover – white paint with a black and cream stripe.

Also, we pulled a table out of storage that was just the thing to make this all work.  The style of the table is mission and isn’t my first choice of furniture styles, but I really like the balance it brings to the modern updates that were made to the chairs.

The hutch that you saw in the first image was moved to another part of the room and we brought in this old federal sideboard.  The mirror and lamps added a nice reflection and opened the room.  Also the walls were given a fresh coat of gray above the chair rail molding and white below the chair rail.  This really made a difference in the overall fresh feeling in the room.

Thanks again for inviting me over today Ange!

Thank you Rene, I love love love your dining room!  Please stop over and give her some blogging love and tell her Ange sent you!  Stay tuned for the final guest blogger(s) Heather & Vanessa from At the Picket Fence.  Then hopefully I’ll be ready to jump back into blogging and have some rooms to show you from the new abode.  Happy Wednesday everyone!

Lovely, lovely, Rene. I had not seen any pictures of your dining room before. You did a spectacular job of making it feel fresh — the white curtains really do the trick too!

I cannot help but to simply fall in love with the interior design of this cottage. It gives one the impression of a timeless and contemporary piece.
