Family Room Update

September 14, 2011

Good morning everyone! I decided to give a little update on our family room which I last blogged about here. Sad to say, not much progress has been made in this room but I thought I’d share anyways.
Here is how our room looks now that we’ve painted the dresser turned tv cabinet.

Nice cords hanging down, right?  That’s how I plan to incorporate black into this room.  Ok, not really.  I also need to figure out how to cover up the ugly vent above the tv.  I wanted the tv sitting on the dresser but hubby thought we needed it mounted on the wall.  We still might go with my way.  Then I could cover the vent with a big picture or something.  Anyone else have a vent on the wall they covered up?  I have a few ideas for the wall, like maybe this one:

And can I take a picture without kids or dogs in them?  I guess not seeing as that’s my life!  So sorry for the “unprofessonal” photos but this is my life and how we live in our home.  Much better than a magazine like photo, right?

I still need to reupholster the ottoman or find a different one that doesn’t require work.  I really want this instead:

Or how about this table?

I do have some barn wood sitting in my garage….hmmmmmm. I am hoping to find a big mirror for over the fireplace and of course I will be painting all the oak right out of this room sometime soon. Like before 2013, at least.

And I love my thrift store lamp that I spray painted along with my little side table but maybe it needs to be something other than green.

Finally, I need a ton of pillows for the couch seeing as it has none. I really like this look here:

In fact, I love my white ektorp, I really do but this is what the slipcovers look like after being washed two weeks ago.

I flipped the back cushion over hoping you can see the difference. So I really am thinking I might be buying a different color slipcover for the couch. The chairs stay pretty clean but the couch is just a mess with a toddler, a puppy, an older dog and three other kids. It does wash out really well but I can’t be washing these things every two weeks. Maybe this:

So that’s the update which really wasn’t much but actually more of a vision of where I want this living room to be in a few months.

I’m linking up with Kelly at View Along the Way for the Roomspirations Party! I am going to be heading over there to see what other awesome inspiration is being linked up! I hope you’ll join me! Also, don’t forget to check out the entryways at Abode Love. Remember the links are open until Oct. 14th so if you aren’t ready to link up today, there’s still time.

We have a vent on our living room wall too, but it's painted the same color as the wall. I'm not sure if covering it up is a good idea, I think it's how air flows back down to the furnace/central air system… But I'm not sure. I LOVE the maps! What a neat decorating idea! I'm a new follower, thanks for linking up to Roomspiration today! ๐Ÿ™‚

The dresser/tv cabinet is magnificent. I think a gallery wall with maps is a great idea. A cute kid in the picture makes a space more homey! It will all fall into place eventually.

I love the color you chose for the dresser. I have the Ektorp in the gray and I can attest that it doesn't show dirt. The gray is also a really high quality fabric.

Oh noooo your ektorp slipcover doesn't clean up well? Bad news, friend! I'm hoping mine will bleach or sun out… now I'm nervous.

But on a happy note – I really love that dresser you're using as a TV console! The color is perfect!

I love the grey slipcover. I've seen it in person and it's even nicer than in the pictures.

Girl, I love your matter of fact personality, it's so stinkin' cool! Seriously, how many of our living rooms look perfect all the time? None. That's how many! That console is *DIVINE* in that blue color and that frame on your mantel is awesome! Good luck with the white with kiddos…I just washed the couch covers a couple weeks ago (we have a dark green/gray color) and the water in the washing machine looked like sewer water. No joke. I blame the kids and the dog. Probably the husband, too. (c:

Hey Ange! I love the TV cabinet! It turned out fantastic! You are I really do have such similar tastes and it looks like our houses are set up very similar too! lol I just washed the covers on my white chairs this week. I have had them since May and this was the 4th washing so I guess that's good. We plan to get the Ektorp sectional in white sometime next year for our family room and I hope, hope, hope it holds up as well as the chairs have so far! I don't allow the dogs on the furniture but you know they still get up there when I am not looking or out. ๐Ÿ™‚ I did however find a dirty spot under one of the chairs from the dog sleeping under it all the time. Chair covers are so much easier to clean than carpet! Keep up the wonderful work! Talk soon. Chris

I love love love the color of that newly painted console! So nice! I agree that the gray slipcover would be a great solution! Looking good!

Ange, you amaze me! You just moved into your house and you have done SO MUCH to beautify it and make it a home for your family. It is very warm and inviting. I could totally plop down on your sofa and feel very comfortable. One thing I am grateful to see throughout Roomspiration is people posting rooms that aren't "complete" or finished. You know why? Because that is LIFE. Our homes are a work in progress. Also because it is good to let other Mom's know it's ok to not have it all DONE right now. It's ok to dream and look forward to the day when you can spend money on this or that. In other words, it's okay to be good enough, not perfect. ๐Ÿ˜‰ Let's keep on partying!
