A look back at 2015 Home Projects

I blogged a few days ago about last year and all the great fun we had with friends and family, traveling and just enjoying life.   Today I thought it would be fun to look back at what we accomplished in our home last year.

The first project of the year, redoing the cloffice.  I was ready for a change after over 3 years of the stenciled wall.

This was just the beginning because then we added the picture frame moulding to the entryway, stairway and upstairs hall.  I also changed from gray owl to sea haze for the wall.  Although I kind of miss the gray owl.  Again, the before isn’t bad but I was ready for some change.  And in the second photo you will notice another project that we did later this year, the stair landing is now hardwood floor and stained a slightly darker color.  That’s in preparation for a project on the list this year.

This project spread into March with the upstairs hallway.  I still need to hang some black frames on the wall with our photos, maybe by this March I can finish that.

In March I also picked up a new CL table and chairs for our kitchen.  I painted the apron and pedestal with hopes of redoing the top of it.  Again, maybe this year I will get to that along with 4 new chairs.

April was when I went all crazy and painted the front living room a light aqua color.  It looked great with my white IKEA furniture but then it left the fireplace room in a bad spot.  Honestly if I could have two sets of white furniture that would be great!

May was when I decided to replace the carpeting in the shared kids room with laminate.  The cute little schnauzer has a peeing problem and the problem is carpeting.

We took the summer off for the most part but in late July/early August we had our hardwood floors refinished, added hardwood flooring to the dining room and step landing and picked a new color for stain.  We decided to scrape off the popcorn ceiling in the kitchen, entryway, powder room and dining room before the floors were refinished.

I also painted the living room again, white this time with a navy accent wall, thanks to the $30 tufted leather vintage sofa sleeper from CL.

September I was painting again, this time the dining room.  I was over the aqua and wanted something different.  I went with Chelsea Gray for the dining room which is also the color of stripes in the cloffice.

We also moved bedrooms around again.  Our youngest moved back into his bedroom with the barnwood nook which was my husband’s office for a while.  This bedroom needs a paint job, that will be happening very soon once I decide on a color.

The bedroom he was sharing with his sister became a guest room and my husband’s office.

There’s still a possibility he could end up in our extra storage room again as the two oldest are currently sharing and the middle now wants her bedroom back which is now the guest room.  I think with some paint, carpet and a little heater this wouldn’t be horrible.  Stay tuned for this one!

October was when I joined in the One Room Challenge and we started our Master Bathroom Makeover.  It finished in early November and is hands down my favorite home project from this past year!

I also ended up painting an accent wall in the fireplace room but I am pretty sure I’ll be painting over it soon.  I still don’t love it and that means, it’s time for it to go.  I like the way the fireplace pops against it but I don’t love the accent wall in here.  You can see last Christmas vs this Christmas, although the tree is in the opposite corner.

Overall most of the projects were painting rooms or changing up flooring.  This is the longest we’ve lived in any house and as we settle in more I am really thinking of how I want our home to work for us.

The front living room is now a music room and as you can see above, the tv is back in the fireplace room.  We have three living room areas, two on the main floor and one in the basement.   Here’s a real life basement room photo.  There is a tv above the dresser now. 20151018_234700

As we work on the home office/bedroom situations, I wish the front living room wasn’t so big and my dining room was bigger.  Then the front room could be my hubby’s office/music room and all the children would have their own rooms again although then we are without a guest room again.   Stay tuned for the continuation of musical rooms!  We are so thankful for our home and all the possibilities it has, including plenty of room for our family and all the guests that come visit us throughout the year!
