Happy New Year Friends! I hope you all enjoyed a wonderful Christmas season. It always seems to go by so quickly. We enjoyed almost two weeks off and it was so good for our family. I actually didn’t do much which is weird for me but again, I think it was just what I needed after such a busy fall.
The past few weeks I have been looking for my word for 2019. I have considered a lot of words, including Grow, Joy, Savor, Present, Transform, Change, Embrace and New. But one word keeps showing up and it’s Light. A few weeks ago I sat down and was reading John 12 when this verse really just stuck out to me.
Jesus replied, my light will shine for you just a little longer. Walk in the light while you can, so the darkness will not overtake you.
This past year has been anything but light. In fact, it really has felt like we were in the darkness this fall. My aunt passed away in August, the schnauzer was put down in October, many of our friends have been dealing with a variety of really heavy issues and even church has been tough this fall.
A lot of changes will be happening this year, including sending our oldest daughter off to college in the fall. Our youngest will turn double digits, we will have another senior in high school this fall and another entering high school. Whew. Middle age is rough and wonderful. We are watching our kids grow up and leave the nest, friends are struggling with job, health, children and marital issues. It is easy for me to just let the darkness cloud in and depress me, seeing my friends hurting and watching my kids get ready to leave our home. Usually I love change but I am really struggling with this season of life.
Thankfully the Lord and his love doesn’t change. While I know that we are not guaranteed a life without trails and tribulations one thing we can make sure we do is walk in the light no matter what season we are in.
I want my word to be a reminder to walk in the light, let the word be a light unto my path and to let the Lord continue to be my light and my salvation.
So, here’s to 2019 and LIGHT!
