Our Master Bathroom Needs Help!

September 23, 2012

Read Time:2 Minute, 54 Second

This week we are going to talk about the Master Bathroom because I need your help and it’s time to get this thing done.  Last fall I painted our  master bedroom Hale Navy by Benjamin Moore, then I stenciled a wall and added some stripes to our closet.  I love our bedroom, it is something different than the usual calm and serene bedrooms, which I love too but this has some personality and spunk, like me, it seems fitting.   I plan on updating the pics in this room very very soon.  I just need a bed skirt of all things.

All is right in the world, that is until I lay in my bed and look directly into the master bathroom.

WARNING:  These photos are crappy, I have a hard time photographing a room with no natural light.

I painted the oak vanity white last fall, after a paint failure with a dark brown that looked like purple poop.

The walls are still beige just like about 1/2 of  the entire house that needs to be painted.  I am on a mission to eradicate the beige, no offense to you lovers of beige (which includes my mom), I am more of a gray and blue kind of girl.  I was going to crop out the vent hanging down from the ceiling but I kept my photo somewhat real for you.  I did clean the bathroom before taking pictures, I have to draw a line somewhere.  Look, we even put the lid down for you.

My shower curtain is from Target and I like it but it just doesn’t flow with the bedroom.   It was a we just moved in and need a shower curtain so we can shower type purchase, it was cute, it matched the room at the time, it worked.

Last week I thought I’d try out some rub n buff on my mirror which already has some white paint on it.  Oops, I’m not the most careful painter out there.   I like where it’s going but it needs a lot more work.   I try to rub n buff while brushing my teeth but it doesn’t work very well.   At least the professional painter was messy too, it looks like he didn’t tape the counter before painting.  I feel better now, at least we didn’t pay to get paint on the mirror.

I think I’ve had a hard time moving forward on this bathroom because I don’t know what color to paint it.  Navy seems like an obvious choice, right?    (Click on the picture to be taken to the source page for pinning please, thank you!)

I also considered coral which I love, these bathrooms sure are gorgeous!  I could not find the original source for this first picture, if you know where it’s from I’d love to re-pin it and credit the original source.

I also think plank walls would look fabulous in there as well.  Again the first image does not have an original source.

Colored vanities are cool, something other than the traditional white, brown or black.  I’m also loving the wallpaper and stencil look, I think these pics are  my most favorite bathrooms pictures which are all different styles of course.  I like to keep it interesting and I have Design Style ADD.

Do you love your master bathroom?  Have you painted your vanity lately?  Do you have Style ADD?  Any ideas for my bathroom?

I’d love to hear from you!

I painted my similar bathroom cream, with light grey beadboard on the bottom with a small chair rail. Added Navy and burnt orange accents. The beadboard looks great. The vanity is a white wash. I love it, but don’t knw if anyone else does.

Lighter walls with accents of navy and coral. Through some coral around the bathroom…I have no doubt in my mind that you’ll come up with amazing ideas. The plank wall would be awesome too, so much texture 🙂 Keep us posted on your progress. First step paint color

Ange, I must have gotten “Hale Navy” from you way back when, because I’ve had that name pinned to my bulletin board forever and think I’m going to use it in our master! So thank you for being the source of my inspiration!!!
I say do the planking on top of the wall, and either paint the lower half or the vanity coral, and then bring in the navy in towels and/or artwork. I LOVE a dark bathroom (had a black one in my last house) but I think it would be fun to pull out the coral in the bathroom.
My two cents – can’t wait to see where you go with this!!!! Woooo hooo – new project!!

I have Design ADD after seeing all these beautiful inspiration photos. I’m all confused now. I do love the navy, but I also like the light plank walls. I’m sure whatever you pick out is going to be amazing!

Navy with gold and coral accents gets my vote. I like the look of the plank walls, but I wonder if they would be hard to keep clean and mold free in a bathroom?

The master bath is a hard thing sometimes. I always like when the master bedroom and master bath coordinate in some way. I can’t wait to see which direction you go.

I can so relate to your dilemma. I despise our master bath because the granite is hideous but it’s so low on the list of priorities. I say navy since the closet has the navy/white stripes and it’ll just flow so beautifully.

    Ange,
I like the pictures of the Navy bathroom and especially love the stencil on the ceiling in the Navy bathroom. I like what everyone is saying about accents of coral to help marry your bathroom to your beautiful bedroom. I also notice you have a white dresser in your closet and think your white cabinets in your bathroom make it look symmetrical. Also like the plank idea as it would add light and texture. Your a fabulous decorator and always inspire me so I’m sure whatever you do will be marvelous.

You just gave me inspiration for a bathroom I am doing for a client! Painted vanity rather than just white. She’s 10 and it will be so fun for her bathroom. Thank you for the great inspiration photos. I have decided for me personally, I can not do the navy and coral. I wanted to do that so bad in my office that is predominately navy, but it just doesn’t feel like me. I think it is so beautiful when I see it in photos, but when I put it in my office, it just doesn’t feel right…. wierd right? But I think it could work for your bathroom, it would be stunning against the navy you have in the bedroom.
