THE BLOOMING HYDRANGEA

Create a beautiful space to live in grace

Delighting my way through Spring

Not having social media has been fabulous but I do miss posting fun things that I will see as memories the following year.  Google photos does a decent job of that but it doesn’t always capture the good stuff.  I don’t want to forget all the good stuff that happened this spring.  So here it is, mostly for me but if you’re here, maybe you’ll enjoy it too!

As always, hydrangeas make me so happy!  I have to really restrain myself when I head to a greenhouse or garden center, I want all the beautiful flowers and plants!  Spring used to be just a gateway season to summer but the beauty of the trees coming alive again after winter, flowers popping up and birds singing really makes my heart happy.

In March we traveled to Florida for Spring Break.  Driving down was fun, my husband and were all by ourselves so we made sure to make our stop in Franklin TN for the night.  Gosh I love Tennessee and the people there.  In a different life I would live there.  Unfortunately, our babies  and grands are mostly in Minnesota.   I love my family and can’t leave them behind but maybe we will sneak away for a month or two in the winter and pretend we live there.  My other job is to now convince them all to move with to Tennessee.   I had the MOST delicious breakfast in Murfreesboro and I can’t believe it was gluten free.  Also those grits were delicious!

The reason for our Florida trip was for our son.  He was there for high school baseball and the last time we were in Florida he was 5 years old.  So we told him we could go to Disney or Universal so he could enjoy all the rides.  While he was with his team, we basically had our airbnb to ourselves for 5 days.  We did get to enjoy some time at the beach, mostly looking for seashells and sitting in the sand.  It was “warm” for a Midwesterner but I’m sure the Florida people thought it was a bit chilly for the beach.  Mostly low 70’s with a breeze, even I was chilled a few days.

Eventually baseball was over and our daughter and her friend flew down  to join us. We all went to Universal Studios Epic Universe for a day.  But first we stopped at Waffle House and had a super delicious breakfast.  I do love the Waffle House, again something we just don’t have here in Minnesota.  Epic Universe was fun even though I’m not a rides person.  I spent the day people watching and enjoying the beautiful weather.  Mario World and the Harry Potter/Fantastic Beasts area were pretty amazing!  Honestly, it was fun to just walk around.

In April we took a little road trip to see our daughter get baptized.  She’s found an awesome church and amazing friends in a life group, for these things we are so thankful!  It’s been a bumpy year, but God knew and He provided all she needed the past few months, even before we knew she would need them.  So proud of her and the amazing person she is!

Spring of course means getting the garden ready.  This year I had a special helper with planting the seeds.  I’m excited to include her in the garden process this year as she loved going out to Mimi’s garden last fall and eating the cherry tomatoes.

We have expanded the garden as I’m going to try growing a few different squash including pumpkins.  I hope it works so that this fall we can carve a pumpkin that we planted in the spring.  I love this stage we are in, toddlers make me so happy.  They really do find delight in the small and every day wonders.  Her current obsession is a bird nest under the deck.  Everyday she’s at my house we need to check on the bird mest.  I hope I never forget all those cute words she uses for everyday things.

Lately, we’ve been finding ourselves with time on the evenings and weekends with nothing to do.  So, we’ve decided to take up line dancing. We’ve had a blast with some of our old neighbors meeting up and laughing at ourselves.  But really, it’s been so fun! My husband is way better at it than I am.

And if we’re not line dancing, then we are probably watching playoff hockey!!!  Or I’m busy reading.  Theo of Golden has been one of my favorite books this year!  My husband has almost perfected his latte art so I’ve been enjoying a pretty drink with a good book.  I’ve been struggling to find good books lately so if you have any recommendations, please send them my way.

And finally, somehow after like 6 years, our cat has decided to become a lap cat.  A very long time ago, when she was a kitten she was a lap cat.  Then she turned into a terror and now maybe she’s also feeling the perimenopause like myself.

That’s my delight for the past few months.  Things not pictured but delightful:  Coffee, lunch and visiting a greenhouse with friends on a beautiful spring day.     Manicures with friends.  Laughing until it hurts at the grandbaby trying to play hackey sack with Uncle Jojo.  Watching the wild play with friends.   Weekly cribbage with my man.  Watching a friend on stage pursuing something she used to love doing.  Adventures at the zoo with my family.  Enjoying some long chats and catching up with friends.   Planning out my garden! What’s been delighting you lately?
