Surprise Virtual Baby Shower, I’m bringing some Appetizers!

April 4, 2012

How fun is this?  Even though my friend Kelly from View Along the Way  lives many states away from me, I get to be a part of her Surprise Virtual Baby Shower!  Thank you to  Skye from Feathering Our Nest and Erin from His and Hers for organizing this surprise shower and also for inviting me to join in!  To check out the rest of the guests and what they are bringing to the shower, head over to Erin’s blog!

I just love this idea, that we can shower our friend with love and celebrate this soon to be new addition to their family.  I mean look at how absolutely gorgeous this family is!  Can you imagine how cute this baby girl is going to be?   Click here to see more cute family pics and also check out what Kelly has planned for the nursery, I love it!

One of my favorite things at baby showers besides all the teeny tiny little clothing and playing the game where you guess what candy bar is melted in the diapers,  is the great party food.  Yummy cake, desserts, appetizers and even the punch, I might suggest wearing maternity pants to the shower so you have room for all the great food and also then the pregnant lady up front has a friend in elastic waist pants.

I was very excited to be able to bring some appetizers to the party.  Seeing as I’ve never actually eaten food with Kelly I wasn’t sure what her favorites were.  I know what my favorites are,  bacon wrapped cream cheese stuffed jalepenos and anything with buffalo wing sauce.   Somehow those items didn’t seem very appropriate for a pregnant lady to eat so I picked my second third and fourth favorites, Veggie Pizza and Taco Dip.  While this shower food may be virtual for all of you, it was not for me.  I made both of these and then proceeded to eat them throughout the day.  Someone had to, right?  (On a side note, after this post I may be bringing elastic pants with me to Haven.)

Veggie Pizza

Ingredients:

1 8oz package of cream cheese softened

1 cup sour cream

1 (1 oz) packet of dry ranch dressing mix

1/4 tsp garlic salt

1 teaspoon dried dill weed

2 packages refrigerated crescent rolls (original flavor)

1 red bell pepper chopped

two medium size bunches of fresh broccoli florets chopped

1 to 2 cucumbers cut up

Preheat your oven to 350 degrees.  Spray a jellyroll pan with non-stick cooking spray.  Unroll your crescent roll dough and place in the jellypan.  I smoosh it around until it fits nice and neatly together.  (Make sure you buy original style crescent rolls and not buttery flaky style.  I ended up with one of each so my crust is buttery flaky on one side and original on the other side.)  Good thing I wasn’t really bringing this to the shower!

I usually pierce the dough with a fork so it doesn’t bubble up while baking in the oven.  Bake your dough for 10 minutes, then let cool.

While the dough is baking I chop up my veggies and create the yummy ranch goodness.  In a mixing bowl combine the sour cream and softened cream cheese, mix together with your mixer until it’s nice and smooth.  Then mix in the garlic salt, ranch dip and dill weed.

Depending on how cool the crust is, I either put the lid on my bowl of ranch goodness and place it in the fridge for a while or if the crsut is cool enough, I spread it all over!  Oh yeah!

Now the fun part, time to sprinkle on the veggies!

Ready to serve!

Because cream cheese and sour cream play so well together, it’s time for another recipe featuring this yummy duo!

Taco Dip

Ingredients:

1 8 oz package of cream cheese (softened)

1 cup sour cream

1 package dry taco seasoning (McCormick is my favorite to use for this dip)

shredded lettuce

8 oz package of cheddar cheese

A bag of some type of corn/tortilla chips for dipping

Various other toppings if you prefer, like tomatoes, onions, green peppers, black olives

(Sorry, I don’t have a picture of the line up of ingredients, I was too busy eating veggie pizza.)

In a medium size bowl mix together the cream cheese and sour cream until smooth and creamy.  Almost looks like frosting!

Next mix in the dry taco seasoning.  Spread your taco dip on a plate, platter or whatever you are going to use it serve it on.

So now the creamy goodness has some lumps, no worries, you are going to cover up the lumps with vegetables and cheese.  If only that worked in real life, miracle cellulite cream, just add veggies and cheese.   Anyways, moving on, your dip should look something like this now.

I made one half kind of plain jane for certain picky people in my family.  You could do the same, sometimes I put black olives, green peppers and tomatoes in little bowls so people can add their own toppings to the dip.

Here you go, I have a serving already for you, Enjoy!

Kelly, Andy & Weston, many blessings to your family as you spend these last few weeks together as a threesome and get ready to welcome a new littler girl into your life!  Praying for easy transitions at home, with Weston and with the baby, a safe and quick delivery for you Kelly and extra compassion and understanding from Andy!  Looking forward to meeting you in June!  Blessings to you my friend!!!

Ange, I am so giddy and blown away and honored from this whole day!! (And hungry now, too – I’ve never seen veggie pizza before, but the combo of the veggie pizza and taco dip has me hating the fact that this shower is virtual and not IRL!) 🙂 THANK YOU so much for this amazing and fun surprise!! (I’ll be “attending” from my blog soon, so make sure to stop by!) 🙂

    hahahaha!

If I was at a shower with your appetizers and DIDN’T wear elastic pants, I’d be disappointed.
