This is my grandma’s recipe for Spritz cookies that we always make, every year. Every year I forget with the first batch to put sprinkles on the cookies BEFORE they get placed in the oven to bake. I haven’t made these yet this year but will be making them this weekend.
I want to mention that you need a cookie gun for this recipe! You can use whatever shapes you like but I always use the tree, a wreath and some other weird design that looks like a flower, sort of. You can buy a cookie gun at Target and other retailers, usually for under $20. Here is one that Target has available by Wilton.
INGREDIENTS:
1 C Oleo
1 1/4 C Powdered Sugar
1 Egg
1 tsp Vanilla
2 1/2 C Flour
1/2 tsp Salt
Assorted colors of sugar crystal sprinkles
Pre-heat oven to 400 degrees.
Cream together 1 C Oleo (does anyone use that anymore?) I just use butter instead and 1 1/4 C Powdered Sugar. Add in 1 Egg and 1 tsp. Vanilla, gradually adding in 2 1/2 C Flour and 1/2 tsp Salt.
Mix well and then put the dough into your cookie press. Press gun onto un-greased cookie sheets, add some sprinkles and bake at 400 degrees for 6-8 minutes.
This is what they look like prior to baking, the spinkles make a nice mess on the sheet, especially when you have little helpers who don’t understand you “sprinkle” them on. They think you turn the sprinkle container upside down and let them pour out all over the cookies. Good thing we like sprinkles at our home.

I make spritz cookies about every other year. I think they are cute but haven't found a great tasting recipe. I'll have to try yours! I love that all of the recipes from my grandmothers call for oleo.
And that photo is horrifying. 😛
Ange – do you add food coloring to yours, ever? We add red to some, and green to some…makes the cookies beautiful, with the sprinkles. Excited to make these with my 2 1/2 year old this year. Merry Christmas!

WOW, you gotta love Pinterest! I do, but sometimes pictures should NOT be pinned.
We baked cookies yesterday, but not these. I've never done these because I don't have that type of gun. We make sugar cookies and finger print cookies. Your look delicious!
Have fun baking with the family and have a good weekend
These cookies sound fabulous!! Def need a cookie gun! Also, that pic, crazy hysterical. Why in the world do people take pics like that? Omg. Thank god for pinterest!

Ange, can I borrow your cookie gun? Also, I have NEVER cooked with oleo…what is it? Lard?
I adore these little guys! They are nostalgic for me, my family always made these for our cookie plates for taking around to our neighbors (c: I forgot all about them the last few years! Thanks for the reminder, girl!
Thanks for leaving this recipe! I've had a press for 10 yrs.? But the instructions are in another language. I would have parted with the press a long time ago but I love these Christmas cookies and would love to make them.
