No Spend February Week 2

Half way done with the No Spend Month and unfortunately it seems this NO Spend month has turned into just trying not to spend too much.  While painting this week, I had to run and grab lunch a few times because being gluten free and working in a flip house, I didn’t have access to a fridge or microwave so planning on lunch was tricky.  I figured I was earning money so the little I had to spend on lunch wasn’t that big of a big deal.

BUT the bigger issue is these kids are going to eat us out of house and home!  Seriously!!!!   For breakfast the little guy had 2 waffles, 2 sausage links, a hashbrown patty and a bowl of oatmeal and he was still hungry!  So the challenge has been feeding the children and trying not to spend money while doing it.  HA!  Lunches are hard too with them as they are particular about what they want and hot lunch is really more expensive than cold lunch so I’m fine making lunches it just seems that as much as we try to save on groceries, it is hard to feed a family of 6 for cheap unless you feed them a bunch of packaged crap.  I’d love to hear if you have any great ideas on how to save?  I buy most of our groceries at Aldis lately so not really sure how much cheaper we can get.

Beyond food, this past Saturday the goldendoodle “found” one of our beloved hamsters in the exercise ball and not sure what happened but she proceeded to drop the hamster out of her mouth while I happened to glance into my living room. The hamster was dead but thankfully her body was completely intact and there was not really any blood.  We spent the rest of Saturday mourning our loss, I cried for many hours myself as I loved that darn cute little hamster a lot.  I also cried for my daughter who loved her hammy so much, Oreo was always with her, in a pocket, playing in the barbie house with her, just hanging out doing homework, seriously she was always with her and Oreo was her best friend.

I used to take Oreo out and hang with her too, she was just the best darn hamster and I was so upset on Saturday.  We want to protect our children from hurt and pain but unfortunately we can’t do that all the time and the hamster death was a good life lesson even if it sucks.   She now has a new baby hamster and she’s working on training her to be held a lot like Oreo and so far, so good.

Our van had a scheduled oil change this last week and we were pretty sure the van needed new front brakes.  Thankfully they are still really good so that was a nice savings of $250 we were thinking we would have to pay.  My van was also hit last week while it was parked so it needs to go in for that but it won’t be out of our pocket, thankfully.

Not even sure how much we spent this week, I did go to the grocery store last week and I bought myself some asparagus which apparently I’m now allergic to as well.  It was $1.99 a pound which is a good price too.   If I had to guess, we spent $35 on groceries last week between running out of a few items for lunches and my asparagus purchase.  Let’s hope this next week is better on the budget!
