My word for 2022 was Discipline. Not a favorite cutesy word like flourish was but it was definitely a much-needed word for me. Looking back on this past year, I would say it was a good year for discipline. Being in your mid 40’s is a ride. Lots of changes happening both physically and just in life with kids going to college, getting engaged, graduating high school, etc. This is one of those words that I hopefully will continue to grow in, even when it’s not my word for the year. It’s brought about rhythm to my life that I desperately needed.
One habit or discipline if you will that I was hoping to develop was going to the gym consistently. I can honestly say, this is something that I try my best to do at least 3 times a week and when I don’t make it, I work out at home. Finding friends that also walk/work out makes it even better! Unfortunately, I wasn’t super consistent in the middle of this year, summer is such a struggle for me with routine, I just want to throw it all out the window and run wild. I’m hoping this winter that consistent exercise will help me manage my SAD.
One of my other goals this year was reading through the bible with my bible study ladies. It’s been challenging this year with schedules, lots of illness and just life but I think a few of us are still on track to finish out the year. This year I incorporated listening to the podcast daily as much as possible and that was super helpful! Not sure what I will do for next year, but I am so glad I decided to read through the bible again this year.
Another area I was looking to be more disciplined in was time management. This is a hard one to measure how well I did because some days I am down right bored as a gourd. Other days I feel very behind on life and busy. I did manage to read more books this year which was great.
Honestly, I am not sure what I do with my down time because at the end of the night, usually around 10pm I finally sit down and wonder where the day has gone. So this is an area I will also continue to work on into 2023, purpose with my day and not zoning out on my phone.
Two other small goals this year were to watch more sunrises/sunsets and get out into nature, which sometimes can go hand in hand. Always chasing those sunrises and sunsets, I mean who doesn’t love the beauty God creates each day?!?
One thing I didn’t add to my goals or vision board was gardening. But I had an amazing garden this year. I was picking cherry tomatoes like nobody’s business! My zuchinni were also growing like crazy until a vole or something ate the roots and killed my plants. It was something that definitely required some discipline, watering, fertilizing, picking and then eating the fruits of my labor. I absolutely LOVED it! I already have plans to expand our garden next year.
So there’s 2022 and Discipline. It definitely was a great word for this year. Every year I learn more about myself and what works for me and what doesn’t. And what I’ve learned this year with being more consistent and disciplined is that these are lifelong habits I am adding into my life. The benefit of which I might not see right away. So I won’t leave discipline behind but I am excited to see what my word for 2023 will be.
