Yesterday marks three weeks since we moved into our new house. It didn’t take us long to get the house squared away and in order. I’ve been itching to do a project, maybe paint something small to make it feel more like our home.

Our current front door color was black which is classic but I like to have a front door that stands out. Case in point, my old front door that I regret painting over. It made our tan/beige house stand out in a fun way with just a small pop of color.

My kids loved that they could use the front door color for their friends to easily find our home. Living in a newer subdivision with many similar homes, I wanted our front door to be something different and fun. Also keeping my modern grandma cottage style in mind I knew I needed something a little out of my comfort zone.

Before we moved in, I found some pillows at Home Depot. This striped rug from Target matched the pillows so perfectly that I couldn’t resist buying it. I just loved how welcoming and happy our front porch looked. But the door was getting hot in the sun all afternoon and it was just kind of feeling blah.

After two trips to the paint store and five samples of paint, I found a winner! It sucked to spend $50 on paint samples but I am so glad I did. I’ve learned my lesson, always sample paints on poster board because what you love on a small chip or a screen, may not translate in real life.

While at Ace I had him mix up Magnolia Green for me which was my second option. It definitely would have been a safe pick and I really did like it. In fact, I am considering it for my kitchen island so I’m glad I picked that one up as well. My heart was really set on pink and many of you also voted for pink on my instastories. The first set of pinks I tried were very bubble gummy but as soon as I saw this one, I knew it was a winner! It’s Rose Pink by Sherwin Williams.

Unfortunately this color is only available in their new Emerald distinction line and wasn’t offered in an exterior option. Our local ace color matched the little paint chip I had for me and I was able to get the color in a Benjamin Moore exterior paint.

This color definitely was a stretch for me but after it was all done and I walked down to the sidewalk, I was so happy! The color seems like a welcoming smile which is exactly what I wanted. Plus it seemed to fit into my Modern Grandma Cottage feel which I’ll talk about in an upcoming blog post soon!

Without a deck or patio in our backyard, this is our current hang out spot. The sun sets in the west so we get some beautiful skies in the evening, plus it’s nice to say hi to all the people walking by.

This cute sign was from Target, Hearth and Hand Collection. I found some command strips at Lowes that are specifically for hanging signs, interior and exterior use. So far so good, it hasn’t budged!

My first project in the Pond House is done! I’d love to know what your front door color is, leave me a comment or send me a pic on social media. There are so many great color options out there and the front door is a great spot to have some fun and maybe take a little risk with color.
