ORC – Week 1 Our Living Room – Decorating around a sectional I don’t like

October 5, 2017

Welcome friends!  It’s my favorite time of year, the ORC!  This will be my 5th time participating and I can’t wait to see what everyone is doing.  Here’s a quick recap of a few rooms I’ve done in the past, one being our Sexy Master Bedroom and another favorite, our Sexy Master Bathroom.

Now it’s time to tackle a room in our home that has been a thorn in my side, well since we moved in.  Our front or formal living room.

It’s been through a few changes and it’s time for something a little more permanent.  We purchased a sectional from Costco back in September and sold the beloved IKEA Ektorp sofa and chairs.  I don’t love this sectional style wise but it’s better than some others that I looked at so we will call it a win.  My family is obsessed with this sectional and sit/sleep and sprawl on it any chance they get.  So the debate is on over which sofa ends up where in our home, the tufted gray beauty or the beastly gray sectional.

This is the corner where the tv will go.   It’s hard to do much between the sets of french doors.

And looking into the Dining Room.

We have a vision for the front room, which will include new carpeting!  So excited, the carpet in the front living room is stained and gross.  It’s original to the house so it’s definitely time.  As much as I love the Aloof Gray paint color, it doesn’t really go with the sectional so I will be painting before the carpet goes in.

The large wall needs something, I am thinking brick or shiplap or something along those lines.  I want the room to feel a little cozier as it’s a large room.  It’s hard to style with the two entrances having french doors but we will make it work!  Here is our vision for the room, let’s see if we can make it happen!

One of my biggest inspiration pics can be found at Dear Lillie Blog here,

I also really love this photo, you can find it on Beckie Owens Blog,  here.

Accent wall – Shiplap, Faux Whitewash Brick, Board & Batten, something?

Ceiling – Wood Beams & a chandy or light fixture of some sort besides the current one.

Flooring – New Carpeting!

Paint – new light neutral wall color

Furniture – We need a new tv stand, the black dresser has seen it’s time in our home.  Also, I have a lack of end tables in my home so hoping the hubby can build us some furniture

Decor & Accessories – Again, lack of pillows in my home and decor really.  I am thinking modern farmhouse with some cottage thrown in.  I really want the dining room and front living room to flow.

This won’t be a super dramatic change but I think it will still be quite noticeable, kind of like our bedroom and bathroom.  This room is a very plain box right now.  Not really ugly but also not really standing out much.  I’m looking forward to giving this room some much needed personality in the next few weeks!

Make sure you follow along with the amazing lineup of bloggers over at Calling it Home!    And it’s not too late if you would like to join up with your own room!
