Master Bedroom Progress

November 15, 2011

Good Afternoon friends!  I am really excited to show you what we did in the closet this past weekend. (Get your minds out of the gutter, people).  This is our closet before my great idea. Vanilla, boring, gross wire shelving and some bad photography.  Some of these pics are from my camera phone.  I am at the end of my rope with my Kodak, it literally eats batteries and I can not hardly use my camera anymore.  Earlier today I had visions of smashing it in the middle of the road with a hammer and then running it over again and again.  (I think I have PMS).

This is the closet after my great idea.  It took some awesome Scotch Blue Edgelock tape and my wonderful hubby who did the hard part, figuring out the math for the stripes and then measuring and drawing the lines on the wall.  I had the easy part, putting the tape on the walls, painting and taking the tape off.

I LOVE IT!

Ok, well here is how it really looks right now once we added back in some of the wire shelving, our clothes and a dresser.  I convinced him we didn’t need all that shelving in there because it makes it hard to see the stripes. I am not sure if the dresser is staying in there or not yet, we are experimenting with that.  I asked the hubs to not put the door to the closet back on either because I want to admire my stripes at night while in bed.

I found this online at ana-white.com the other day and I’m hoping the hubby will want to build it in our closet sometime soonish and after we find an extra $200 in the budget.

I’ll post a few before and afters of how the bedroom looks now with white trim.  We are hoping to be able to start purchasing the white six panel hollow core doors in a few weeks.  That will also make a huge difference in the look!

I am having a lamp dilemma and I’m sure I’ll figure it out but here is a side by side of the current black lamps and the lamps from the family room.  I think we need some taller lamps in here but the hubby loves the black lamps.  One of the options is, I put the black lamps on top of some books for height.  The bubs was not cooperating so I just let him be on the bed while I shot some pics.

I also had this big furry beast on my bed too, they always want to be where the action is.  Ahem.

Next on the list for the bedroom is replacing the doors, figuring out what I want on the walls and what I’m doing with lamps.  I also would like a blanket of some sort for the end of the bed, curtains that are not red and left over from the previous owners, some pillows and a bed skirt. Also need to figure out what to do with dresser and if we should add some other furniture to the blank wall where the dresser used to be.  I’m thinking the rest of the room is going to move slowly for a few months and I’m ok with that.
The hubby would like some dark brown hardwood floors too and so would I but I think that is for another year.
And now onto the failure of the weekend, the bathroom vanity of doom. This is what it looked like before I painted it, just a standard builder oak vanity.

Here is after with a bad color choice on my part, thank you Rustoleum Kona Brown.  Who knew that it would look like purple/chocolate pudding?  Not me.

I had some fun on Picnik with stickers, I love that there is a toilet paper roll sticker so I thought this was a perfect time to use it along with the skull and crossbones.

I think maybe the paint fumes have started to do something to my brain.

Oh Ange, your bedroom is coming right along and I love, love your closet. Maybe you should bring those stripes out into your room, on one wall. That would look awesome, just a thought. I think I want to move into your closet, it's big enough ha! The colors are looking so good and you already know how I feel about the trim. Way to go!!

First of all…LOL Ange! You totally crack me up girl! Secondly, I LOVE what you did to your closet except now mine looks even more shabby by comparison. 🙂 So sorry about the frustrating paint experience but glad you kept your sense of humor about it…or maybe that is still the paint fumes!

HOORAY! Your room and closet look great! I don't know how you get so much done! I am always excited to see all your progress! Even the bloopers. If you work at Target and still get so much accomplished, then I'm certain that a paint fume intervention will be in your future.

Dying over your master closet! You know I love the high contrast stripes and the chartreuse mirror: AWE-SOME! They say great minds think a like. My office/guestroom is going navy/tan/white as an ode to my alma mater, BYU. Love what you've done so far.

I am drooling over those stripes! And, that dresser – amazing lines! Wow… LOVING the navy, green and white… I love how you opted for less shelving so you could see the stripes better. A girl after my own heart.
