Dining Room Curtains

The dining room is waiting for curtains.  I’m waiting for curtains.  I envision floral, something kind of vintage looking.

The search has been on and I finally found something that I like at Target.   Yesterday I tried the gray ones.

Then I tried the cream ones.

Here they are, together.  Someone said they thought they were Pottery Barn curtains.

Now I’ve tried them at night looking from the kitchen into the dining room.  Guess what, dog butt.

And another dog.

By the way, I love love love the color in my dining room.  I wasn’t sure when I first painted it and was thinking maybe something a little lighter in color but it makes me happy so it’s staying.

So, I love the gray because they are kind of dramatic and fun.  The cream are more subtle, classic and maybe not as “trendy.”   Stay tuned and maybe I’ll make a decision soon!

Black French Doors – Updating our Home

This past fall we decided to finally make our formal living room my hubby’s office and a library/music area.   This room is large and we have some great plans for it but first we needed some french doors so my man could work without hearing all the household noises.  Lowes was our go to place for the french doors.  We purchased two sets, unfinished and framed.  If you follow me on Instagram (bloomingange) then you caught some pics of the action and even the finished product.   The hubby did all the hard work of installing the doors, cutting out some drywall, fitting them in, installing the trim around the doors.  I forgot to mention he did have some help.

For my part, I did the painting and let me tell you, 4 doors with 800 mullion windows took a long long time.  Seriously, priming the doors and painting 3 coats of black paint was no easy task.  I also had to convince the hubby that black doors would look amazing.  Thanks to Pinterest it wasn’t too hard.  Here are a few of my inspiration pics.

Just a reminder, here is how the entryway looked last fall after I did the cloffice and entryway along with painting the trim white.   The formal living room was never being used (unless you count the kids using the couches for gymnastics) so I finally convinced the hubby to try it out as his office.  He brought up his little desk from the dungeon and did a test run.

Here it is now with the french doors and a new paint color and much bigger desk for the hubby’s office.

The dining room has had a few changes, mainly the giant mothership boob light is gone and a new paint color on the walls.  Still need some curtains in here.   The french doors really give it such an elegant look, I love it!

As you can see, for a while we were using the oak door slabs  from when we replaced our interior doors.  This didn’t work very well, the french doors are much much better.  The next few shots are from inside the office looking towards the dining room and the entryway.

I love, love, love these doors.  They have added such an elegant look to our home.  Thank  you Lowes and handsome hubby!

Tablescaping and Mantel Decorating!

Howdy friends! It’s Wednesday, half way through the week and this morning I am guest Posting at Before Meets After.

I am sharing a little of this (see my $12 Savers chair in the background!):

and some of this as well:

I’d love if you paid Lisa at Before Meets After a visit and see what else is going on during the

Boob Light Buh-Bye!

Good Morning! I have been a busy beaver around these parts, painting the trim in the family room and kitchen is number one on the hit list this week. The second coat of paint will go on later this evening, ok later tonight, as in after 9pm. It looks so awesome, can’t wait to share it with you!
In the meantime I thought I would share this little beauty I picked up this weekend. We went to a sketchy neighborhood to pick it up but it was worth it.
Remember this light in the dining room, the mother of all boob lights?  She is now on CL so if you know anyone looking for a giant boob light, send them my way!

That was one huge light for this small room.  I hated it and couldn’t wait to take it down.

Here is my Craigslist find from Friday, all sparkly and pretty after a bath!  She was only $40 and heavy as all get out.

I feel like we are at a point in our relationship were I can show you a picture of my dining room not all dressed up and pretty and you’ll be ok with that.  At least you can see we enjoy playing games and actually do use our dining room in real life, it’s not just for show.  I didn’t really want to take a picture at night but if we were to wait for me to capture this during the day, well we might be waiting a while.

I am also very excited to report that the bubs is wearing undies for the sixth day in a row!  Yeah!  I’m sure he’ll love that I posted these pictures on the world wide web one day.  These are from last year but he’s so cute I think we can see them again.

That’s all I have for today.  I need to get cleaning my house, my mom is coming tomorrow and we host a youth group small group at our homes on Wednesday as well.  I don’t want them to see the tornado that went through while I was painting trim.

Dining Room Dreaming

I was browsing good ol’ CL this morning when I saw this for $40:

After dinner we’ll be going to take a gander at that light.  Hopefully I like it as much in person as I do in the picture.  Then I can remove the mother boob.

Seeing as our dining room here is smaller than our old dining room I think I will move the black buffet out and try to find something more like this:

Or maybe something like this:

I also think some quail or pheasant artwork like this would be great in there:

I really like this mixture of patterns and colors:

That’s all the dreaming I have time for right now. This room might be next on my hit list although I’d really like to get our Master Bedroom to a point where I at least like it. The walls are still brown, the headboard and foot board aren’t attached and there are no curtains on the windows. We don’t even have nightstands that will work.
This weekend I am finishing up the kitchen counter stools so we can actually use them! For now, I’m off to add noodles to my dinner for tonight, Olive Garden’s Pasta Fagioli knock-off.

It’s awesome stuff! I love Stephanie O’Dea and her blog, A Year of Slow Cooking. The recipes are mostly or maybe all Gluten Free which was so helpful last week when I had to make a Gluten Free meal for a MOPS mom. If you haven’t checked out her blog, please head over there!
On Monday make sure to check back as we will all be featuring some of our favorite rooms that were linked up from the Roomspiration Party!  I might be on fb this weekend posting about my light or who knows what so come join me over there!

The Dining Room

Alright tonight is a bittersweet post for me.  The dining room is done but we won’t get to enjoy it much.  I wish I could take my house with me but we will leave it behind and let someone else enjoy all our hard work!  I am so excited to be moving and having a new house to  decorate/diy/tear up and redo!
So here is what the dining room has looked like pretty much since right after we moved in.  I posted the before and after pictures all together so enjoy the show!

At one point we were going to add in these great corner cabinets that our neighbor had removed from his house. We decided against them eventually because it was going to be a bit of work to get them installed and painted.

Here’s a reminder of the buffet before:

So that’s the dining room!  I would have added a few more elements if we were staying in our house but seeing as we aren’t, this is how it will stay.
The weekend of May 21st/22nd 2011 we will be house hunting and I will take my camera along and let you join me in the search, so look forward to that posting next week!  I’m sorry I haven’t blogged much but we’ve been busy knocking projects off our list.  I hope to have some good news to post soon so stay tuned!!  I really miss everyone and feel like a big blogging slacker right now but please don’t go anywhere, I promise I’ll be back soon!!!!

I need your help

Alright, I am down to window treatments in the dining room and I’ve been having a stink of a time trying to find something I like. When I picked the black and white fabric for the chairs I didn’t really think we’d do board and batten. Well, we did and now the table base and chairs are white, the walls are 2/3 white and the walls are blue/green. So I found two fabrics that I like that go well together, so do I recover the chairs with one of the new fabrics? Try and use both in this room along with the black and white chair fabric? Here are pictures of the chair fabric now with both fabrics. Let me know what you think, I’d love some feedback!!!!

Good Morning!

Yesterday was a beautiful day here, the sun was out and it was actually warm! Today it’s back to clouds and cold but there is hope that Spring will soon be here, maybe just in time for summer!
I don’t know about you but I have been super busy the past few weeks with many things, like my $1 map art and my dining room.

. It seems to be the season our family is in and I know that. But all the running around and getting stuff done can be wearing on me. This blog post was in my reader this morning and what perfect timing! If you are finding yourself “Running on Empty” and are looking to refuel you might want to read this post here.

The Painted Buffet and Media Cabinet

A month or two ago, I came across a dresser on Craigslist that I thought might work in our bedroom. We purchased it and it has been moved from the living room, to our bedroom and finally into the dining room. She never really fit in anywhere and I think maybe she was feeling a little brown down. I finally decided to lift her spirits by giving her a little makeover. Nothing too drastic as she was kind of a classy piece but just maybe giving her a little update. Here she is before:

After some primer and three coats of paint, here she is!

My friend recently bought a dresser off of Craigslist and it came with a mirror.  She brought the mirror over to my house because I thought it might look cute with the buffet.  Here is the mirror, not sure what color to paint it or if I’m even going to use it or not.  Pretend you can’t see the dining room table covered with stuff like flashlights and plastic lemons in a bowl.  The dining room is in a state of “transition.”

I really like the lattice on the top because it ties in the dining room chairs. So I’d love your opinions on the mirror, paint it, leave it or just don’t use it at all.  I’m hoping to get a lot finished up on the dining room this weekend!

Here’s the before and then the after one  more time:

UPDATE:
Since moving into our new home, I’ve removed the top drawer and had my handsome hubby install some plywood in the bottom of where the drawer would sit.  I paint it black, he drilled some holes in the back for wires and we are now using it in our family room for media storage.

What I"m working on right now

I have 2 coats of primer on the chairs, sanded in between the coats, two coats of paint on and also put the fabric on the seat cushions! Just waiting to see if they need yet another coat and also trying to decide if I’m going to distress the chairs or not. Here is one chair, she’s sitting pretty now:

Remember the before, well technically this isn’t her before picture but it’s a picture of her and her friends gathered around the table:

While I was busy with painting the chairs, my children were busy doing this:

and this:

They actually built a fort under the table yesterday and two of the three girls slept under it last night. We are on Spring Break and so they’ve been playing together all day really well which is awesome! The side effect of that is a tornado like aftermath in the playroom. Which isn’t that what a playroom is for? But when you can’t play in the playroom because there is no space, it then spills out into other rooms. They have a lot of cleaning to do today!
We are surprising our children tomorrow with a waterpark getaway, I can’t wait! They have no idea so this will be so fun! Hopefully the dining room will be finished soon! What are you working on this week?
