Good Morning!

Yesterday was a beautiful day here, the sun was out and it was actually warm! Today it’s back to clouds and cold but there is hope that Spring will soon be here, maybe just in time for summer!
I don’t know about you but I have been super busy the past few weeks with many things, like my $1 map art and my dining room.

. It seems to be the season our family is in and I know that. But all the running around and getting stuff done can be wearing on me. This blog post was in my reader this morning and what perfect timing! If you are finding yourself “Running on Empty” and are looking to refuel you might want to read this post here.

Our Little Boy’s Bedroom Reveal

Ok, the wait is over, the window treatments have been found and this room is finished! I love this room, everytime I walk upstairs and catch a glimpse of the walls, I get a little giddy.

Here is what the room originally looked like, it was really a lovely sea glass green. Let’s just call it a bad paint color choice made while pregnant.

I only have two pictures of this room, I thought I had more but I can’t find them. I think I say that for every room reveal. I really need to organize my photos but that’s another project for another day or maybe another year.  Does anyone else throw their photos in a bin and quick shut the lid before they throw up all over the floor?  I know Jen at I Heart Organizing just did a photo organizing challenge a few months ago so if you are looking to organize your photos, head over and see her blog, it’s full of great stuff! Back to the room, I get easily sidetracked.  Maybe that’s why I have a hard time finishing projects.
Anyways, on to the finished project!

Here’s the before and after:

I didn’t want to spend a lot of cash on this room and I think I did a decent job of that. The lattice strips were $7.38 for a bundle and I didn’t even use them all for this room.  I primed and painted the strips before we nailed them to the wall.   Hubby also cut them all to uniform length so they would match up vertically with the chair rail.  We measured about every 11 inches apart on the wall for the strips.  After hubby used the air nailer to nail them to the wall, we used some chair rail leftover from the kitchen project and cut and nailed that to the wall above the strips.  We filled in holes and gaps with caulk but seeing as the strips are very narrow there wasn’t much of a gap between the wall and the lattice strips.  I then painted the wall white underneath the chair rail which helped fill in any gaps between the wall and the lattice as well.

The lamp I redid with some jute for $2.  I sprayed the shade with some adhesive spray, then wrapped the jute around the shade, spraying sections of the lamp as I went until it was done.

The pictures are flight maps that someone gifted to us, the frames for the flight maps were $1 each and are old black walnut door fronts from a store.  I cut the maps to size and fit them in the door front and cut pieces of cardboard to fit in the back to hold the maps in place.

The picture frames with his name were from the dollar section at Target.   I made the letters on Google docs and then printed them out on our printer and cut the paper to fit the frame, so total for that was $4.

I made the flag pennant/bunting thing with some material that cost about $6 total.  I made a diamond shape out of cardboard, traced the diamond pattern onto the fabric, sprayed adhesive on the backside of the diamond fabric and then folded it over the jute twine (leftover from the lamp) with the widest part of the diamond shape at the top.

I made the pillow for the bed for about $6, the rug was $17 on clearance at Target and the quilt was from TJ Maxx for $29. The dresser was gifted to us, the cubeicle I purchased for $50 and the fabric bins for that were $18. I purchased two gallons of paint for a total of $52 and the valances were $11 each from Shopko.

Grand total for this room: $199.00 Woo hoo!

Stuff and Nonsense

Join us Saturdays at tatertotsandjello.com for the weekend wrap up party!

A Happy Easter indeed!

Today the sun was shining, the birds were singing and we were rejoicing in the Risen King, Jesus and the empty tomb! Thank you Lord!!!!
We had a great time of worship and a wonderful message at church this morning. Of course the worship leader was really handsome and sometimes is distracting but he’s my husband so I can say that! By the time we left church everyone was “starving” so we hit up our favorite family restaurant in town for some lunch. Then we spent all afternoon outside playing, raking and just enjoying the weather. We also went to a park, took a walk and had pizza for dinner. Classy, I know. We didn’t care, it was easy and everyone liked it which is always an enjoyable dinner in my book! I’d rather spend time with my family than making a meal that I know my kids won’t eat anyways. It would be different if we had family or friends over but when it’s just us, I’ll take the easy route, thank you!
Did you have a nice Easter? Did you have a traditional Easter dinner or maybe head out to a nice brunch somewhere? Did you spend your day with family or friends? I’d love to hear what you did today!

While I’m busy doing a project, this is what’s going on

My children don’t have school, I’ve acquired three extra children for a total of seven children in the house. Meanwhile, I’m busy sanding, caulking, painting and thinking maybe this project is going way longer than I thought! Here is what I’m working on and what the children have been working on as well. I thought I’d include a pic of myself unshowered, dust on my glasses, paint clothes on just to keep it real.

I didn’t even dare go upstairs because I am not sure I can get into the hazardous messy bedroom.
Hubby will be home soon to relieve me and I will go take a much needed shower. Then we get to go on a hot date while our friends come and watch all seven children for us. It’s nice to trade off like this and be able to get away without it costing a ton of money! Buffalo Wild Wings, here I come!!!!
Blessings to you on this Good Friday!

Blue Ticking Patch Pillow

Seeing as I am now going to have to make some valances for the bub’s room and I’m never going to reveal his room, I thought I’d share with you a pillow I made for his bed. When I purchased the quilt for his bed I didn’t buy the sham and this last time when I went to TJ Maxx to purchase it, they didn’t have it in. What’s a girl to do?
I tried using a solid sham and didn’t really like they way it looked on the bed. Last night, while looking for a valance for his room at Wally world, I ran across this pillow for $4.

Suddenly, an idea was born! I threw that pillow in my cart and headed to the fabric section. They didn’t have what I was looking for but my next stop was Hancock Fabrics and they did have what I was looking for!
I purchased some navy felt and a blue gingham check square of fabric. I came home, turned on the ol’ laptop and set to work on google docs. I made the letter J and the number 4, printed them off, cut them out and traced them onto some card stock I had.

I then traced the 4 and the J onto the blue gingham check and cut those out. Next I traced the 4 and the J backwards onto the navy blue felt with a sharpie marker but a little larger size than the what I traced onto the check fabric. I didn’t want the black sharpie to show so tracing it on backwards solved that little problem.  I also cut the tags off the side of the pillow because they were annoying and useless.
I then used some adhesive spray and sprayed the check fabric onto the felt and then sprayed the back of the felt and placed it on my pillow, the 4 on one side and the J on the other side of the pillow. Here it is on the bub’s bed.

A cute little pillow for not a lot of money or effort.  I spent about $6 total on this project.  I thought the number 10 would be really cute but went with 4 because he’s the 4th child and the J is the letter of his first name.  Hopefully soon I will get some valances made and can finally reveal this room!

I’m linking up at the following:

Life and Love: Dream a Little Dream

My husband and I lead a small group for couples and we just started reading the book “One Month to Live” by Pastor Kerry Shook and his wife Chris. We are only on the first week so I’m not sure what I think of this book yet but ask me in 30 days and I’ll let you know!
Day one asks you to think about 5 things you would change about your life if you knew you only had one month to live. This was really a hard question for me to answer. While hubby and I were laying in bed talking about our five things we started talking about dreams and goals for our life, what we would change, etc. This is something we don’t do enough of together, dream! I felt so energized after we talked about where we were in our life 10 years ago, where our life is now and where we want to be 10 years from now.
When was the last time you talked, dreamed, shared goals and aspirations for your life, your family, your character? If you haven’t done it or it’s been a while, do it, soon! I know that for women, we have a hard time dreaming sometimes, too many other things occupy our minds and we find it hard to dream when there is laundry and dishes piled all around us and kids fighting for our attention. Men on the other hand, they love to dream! They also love to share their dreams with us and too often we shoot down their dreams. We tell them what they are dreaming isn’t going to happen so why bother. We think they should live in the real world and not in la-la land. It’s time get your head out of the clouds, can’t you see all the dishes and laundry that we need help with. More often than not, your man is not really going to quit his job and move the family to Alaska so he can be on Deadliest Catch. In the way we women like to share our burdens and just want our husband’s to listen and not solve them, he wants us to listen to his dreams and not respond negatively. If your husband shares his dreams with you, please don’t squash them like a bug. Take the time to listen, hear his heart, he’s letting you in his world, enjoy it, encourage it and dream with him!

I can’t wait to do this with my children as well, listening to their hearts, sharing in their dreams and aspirations, seeing where they want to go in life, what they want to do, who they want to be! I don’t want to squash their hearts, to tell them that their dreams are impossible or foolish. Because what I’m really telling them is that they are foolish in their thinking and I would crush their spirit. So when my children share their dreams with me, I pray that I respond in such a way that encourages them and lets them know that I am always waiting to listen to whatever they want to dream about and I hope I can dream along with them!
So what are you waiting for, start sharing your dreams, you never know where they might take you, maybe even right into the heart of your husband or children!

Room reveal – not quite yet!

Alright, so blame it on Kohls shipping, the room reveal can not take place yet. I really want to do it but I think that window treatments are sort of important and they aren’t here. Boo. So, I thought I’d share with you what I found today while browsing the local St. Vincents or Vinnie’s as we refer to it.

I found this wild lamp and scooped it up.

Good thing I grabbed it when I did because another lady was eyeing it up as well and I didn’t want to start a fight in the lighting section. I even have a drum shade I purchased at Target on clearance for $5 a few months ago.  Maybe some spray paint and fabric on the shade and I can’t wait to put this lamp together.

I was on the search for some maps and found this book which didn’t have anything cool inside until I flipped to the back cover and discovered a folded up map from 1979, it’s big and kind of vinyl like and has maps on both sides!

I wasn’t sure what I was going to do with the map and then I remembered this old window door frame in my basement that my neighbor was going to throw away!  Here’s the map in the frame, I might put this over the couch.   And yes, that’s my big toe in the picture, oops!

I only had my cell phone camera but I did find some cool dressers that would be so fun to paint and use in my house.  I didn’t budget the extra $80 to $100 that they would have cost me so I didn’t buy one.   I loved this one, some new knobs, a new paint job and she would be on classy lady!

This one also had great lines and legs too!

And this one could be fun in a different color and maybe even with her original knobs.

So while waiting for the curtains to not arrive, I put together some wall art for the bub’s room.  I did a shout out on facebook yesterday looking for old maps and someone posted that they had some flight maps I could have.  That sounded really fun and different so I jumped on that right away.  This morning I picked up a lovely packet of flight maps and this is what I created this afternoon.

I purchased three display case frames made of black walnut last fall at a garage sale for $1 each, I had a project in mind for them but never got around to it.  So,  I thought they would be fun to hang on the wall with maps in them and it would be cheap and original wall art for the bub’s room.  Here they are, now I just need to hang them up!

So, I am not going to promise a room reveal because I’m waiting for those stinking window treatments!   Have a great weekend everyone, we are back to blowing and cold weather so the spray painting season was a short one!  Hopefully we will warm up again soon, so if you have sun and warmth, enjoy some for me!  Happy Weekend!

A sneak peek of the bub’s room!

Ok, I’ve been working like a dog the past few days on two different rooms in our house and one is so close to being done, I can’t wait to show it to you!

So here is a sneak peek:

I’m off to finish cleaning my house, it’s in desperate need of a good picking up, scrubbing down and purging.  The purging will have to wait but let me tell you, doing 2 projects at once with 4 kids is not for the faint of heat!  Head on over to my facebook page to check out some more pictures from this week!  Stay tuned, hoping to have the big reveal of the bub’s room tomorrow!!!!

Hooray for Sun and Warmth and Spray Painting Season!!!!

I am not sure what I’m more excited about, the snow is gone, the sun is out, it’s warm or it’s spray painting season!!! Ok, the last one wins! I have been waiting dying to get outside with my trusty spray paint and paint some stuff!!!!  We even had our picture taken together.  Aren’t we cute?  I didn’t get too cute looking today because I’m painting and I am the messiest painter I know!

I don’t have the after pictures yet but here is what I am busy painting at the moment:

Rolling primer on some lattice sticks for the bubs room.

Spray painting this lovely 1970′s/1980′s headboard and the matching footboard for the bub’s room.

And this was an unexpected painting project.  This is what happened to the Behr Premium Plus paint with primer that I used in the dining room back in November.  I’m really not happy about this!  Anyone else have a problem with this paint?   So frustrated!!!!

I have been on a mission the past few days, working on two rooms at once. I really want to get these rooms finished up so I can get outside and start working on my ghetto lovely backyard.
My children asked to plant a garden this year and I can’t wait! We need to finish up the side and backyard landscaping and also restain the playset. I want to get all this done before school is out so we can play all day and not have any projects this summer. Last summer was the year of Vinyl Siding and I am so glad that nightmare is over.  Do you have lovely spring weather?  What are you working on?  Anyone busting out the spray paint?  I’d love to hear and even better, see what you are working on!
